UNOH Showdown at Thompson Generating Tremendous Excitement

Thompson, CT — The UNOH (University of Northwestern Ohio) Showdown has been the talk of the racing community since it was announced last winter. This first-time-ever event, slated for the weekend of September 10th & 11th, has race fans buzzing with anticipation. It will be the biggest event of the year for the combination of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

The very best race teams and drivers from both Tours are expected to arrive at Thompson ready for this head-to-head racing spectacle. Each Tour will compete in its own 125-lap main event. Each of these races will be run for a purse of nearly $53,000.00 plus contingencies. Upon completion of the 125-lap races, the best of both Tours will be lined up for the UNOH 50-lap, $50,000.00+ race to determine the overall winner of this high stakes racing spectacular.

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour points leader, George Brunnhoelzl III is expected to lead an impressive contingent of Southern drivers. Others expected are L.W. Miller, Jason and Burt Myers, Andy Seuss, Tim Brown and many more. Northern race team’s points leader, Ronnie Silk, will head up the Whelen Modified Tour entries. He is expected to be joined by the full contingent northern competitors including Rowan Pennink, Todd Szegedy, Mike Stefanik, Bobby Santos, Eric Beers and many more.

Qualifying through time trials for the 125s will take place on Saturday, September 10th. Race teams will then prepare their cars for the Sunday morning Fan Appreciation Party that will take place on the track Sunday between the hours of 10 AM and 12 Noon. This will give fans an opportunity to meet with drivers from both Whelen Tours along with drivers from Thompson’s “Super 6” NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. Fans are urged to arrive early and to bring cameras and/or items they would like to have autographed.

Thompson Speedway is also offering businesses and fans an opportunity to be part of this amazing weekend. Lap sponsorship for the 50-lap Shootout is available with the money going directly to the leader of the lap sponsored. The lap sponsor’s name will appear on the huge lap board on display at the track and will also be published on the track’s web site, the Thompson Tradition race program and be announced over the track’s public address system.
