UNOH Showdown This Weekend at Thompson
Thompson, CT — The much anticipated UNOH SHOWDOWN is set for this weekend at the Thompson International Speedway. Race fans have been looking forward to this first-time-ever event all season long.
The UNOH SHOWDOWN is unique in that the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will share the same bill for the first time in north. Each Tour will compete in its own 125-lap feature event for purses in excess of $53,000.00 for each Tour. Upon completion of the two 125s, the field for the 50-Lap, $50,000.00+ SHOWDOWN will be assembled and the stage will be set for what could be one of the greatest battles in NASCAR Whelen Modified racing history. The driver who emerges as the victor will pocket some $15,000.00.
The best drivers from both Tours are expected to be on hand for this exciting event. Defending Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos will lead a long list of the best that the north has to offer including Ted Christopher who will be back behind the wheel of the red # 36 WMT car. Current points leader in the North Tour, Ronnie Silk, Rowan Pennink, Todd Szegedy, Mike Stefanik, Ryan Preece and Doug Coby are just some of those that will be on hand for the SHOWDOWN.
Whelen Southern Modified Tour drivers who are making the trip north to Thompson are current points leader George Brunhoelzel III, John Smith, Donny Lia, L. W. Miller, Burt and Jason Myers, Andy Suess, Joe Bertuccio, Thomas Stinson, Austin Pack and many more. Entries from both Tours are coming into the Thompson track office at an impressive rate and a great racing weekend is expected.

Former track and Whelen Modified Tour champion (’92) and the 1994 winner of the Thompson 300 Jeff Fuller, formerly of Auburn, MA, will also return to his roots for this special event. Fuller will be behind the wheel of the potent # 66 car that has been campaigned so successfully by Mike Stefanik. Robbie Fuller is also expected to be on hand for this unique racing event. Many other race teams are contacting the speedway regarding participation in the UNOH SHOWDOWN.
Race fans will have the unique opportunity to meet and greet drivers from both Whelen Modified Tours along with the stars of Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions during the Charles Kepley Memorial Fan Appreciation Party. Drivers and their cars will be assembled on the track Sunday morning between 10 AM and 12 Noon. Racers, fans and companies have enthusiastically jumped on the lap sponsorship program. Every lap has been sold and the money collected for each of the 50 SHOWDOWN laps will go directly to the driver leading that lap.
