Thompson Reschedules Final Points Race
Thompson, CT — Thompson International Speedway today announced that it has rescheduled the September 15th, Thursday Night Thompson Thunder race program. The new date will be Thursday, September 22nd and will feature all six of the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions.
The track’s final weekly race program was the sixth rain out of the season and track owner, Don Hoenig, decided that it was only fair to add an additional event to the schedule. “We have four of our six divisions that have very close championship races and we feel that these race teams should all have the opportunity to race for the titles,” Hoenig said.
In Thompson’s Sunoco Modified division, there is a two way race for the championship between Keith Rocco and Ryan Preece. Only 26 points separate these two drivers going into next week’s race. The Super Late Model division has four contenders for the crown with a 26 points spread between the first and fourth place. Six points make up the difference between “Cam” McDermott and Glenn Boss in the Thompson Modified division and Tommy O’Sullivan finds himself an even 50 points ahead of Rick Gentes in the track’s Late Models.
Grandstands will open at 4 PM with races starting at 5:45 PM. A detailed schedule of the day’s events may be found on the Thompson web page, www.thompsonspeedway.com.
