PRACTICE: Szegedy Sets Pace In Practice

Whelen Modified Tour at Lime Rock for lone road race this year

Lakeville, CT — Todd Szegedy appears to be intent on setting the pace for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour again this year at Lime Rock Park.

Szegedy’s lap of 53.909 seconds (100.169 mph) was quickest during Friday’s two practice sessions as teams prepared for the NASCAR Whelen Modified 66/99 presented by Town Fair Tire.

The Ridgefield, Conn., driver won the pole winner and led all but the last four laps, settling for second, when the tour made its inaugural visit to the 1.5-mile, eight-turn road course last year.

Justin Bonsignore was second quickest in the second practice session, with a lap of 54.178 seconds (99.671 mph). He was followed by Mike Stefanik and Ron Silk. James Civali was fifth fastest in the 45-minute session. Richie Pallai Jr., Rowan Pennink, Erick Rudolph, Kevin Goodale and Eric Goodale rounded out the top 10 for the second session.

Ted Christopher was ninth quickest in the first round of practice, but went off course and bent the left front spindle on his No. 36 Al-Lee Installations/M&T Enterprises Chevrolet. He missed the second round, waiting on his crew to retrieve a replacement spindle from their shop.

Christopher and Stefanik are both former winners at Lime Rock Park in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

Qualifying is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

A final practice session is set for 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, with the green flag for the NASCAR Whelen Modified 66/99 presented by Town Fair Tire set for 1:30 p.m.
