Speedbowl welcomes 13-divisions of racing at Finale Weekend

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl’s annual Finale Weekend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday marks the end of  another successful campaign. In all, the track welcomes 13 divisions of racing to three-eighths mile shoreline oval for  over 400 laps of feature racing. A wide array of racecars will treat fans over the two-day racing extravaganza. Among the  divisions on hand include the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modifieds®, Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and SK Light Modifieds. In addition, the New England Truck Series, Northeast Mini  Stock Tour and Allison Legacy North Racing Series tours all race in to the ‘Bowl to help close the season. The Outlaw Stock race returns to Finale Weekend, allowing competitors from other tracks opportunity to try their hand around the Speedbowl asphalt should their car meet basic rules requirements for the division.

Six champions will be decided at Finale Weekend, including four on Sunday. The Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models bring the closest championship points battle to the weekend with Old Lyme’s Jeff Smith seeking his first track title, leading the way by 14-points over three-time division champion Bruce Thomas Jr. of Groton. The Street Stocks are a battle between Ed Puleo of Branford and two-time division champion Al Stone III of New Haven. Puleo leads by 25-points over Stone. In the Mini Stocks Glenn Colvin of Clinton is after his second title as he sits 40-points ahead of three-time division champion Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon. The SK Light Modified title is between Andover’s Paul French, who leads New London’s Chris Correll by 16-points. It is the first year the division has competed during the Saturday race schedule. Saturday’s features  will decide the Super X-Car and X-Car Saturday Showdown Series titles.

Saturday, October 8th is anchored by seven feature events along with all qualifying races. Pit gates open at 7:30am with rotating practice sessions getting underway at 9:00am. Qualifying rounds begin at 2:30pm with feature racing to follow. The headline events for Saturday include a 50-lap Northeast Mini Stock Tour feature and 25-lap Outlaw Stock race. The New England Truck Series and Allison Legacy North Series both compete in 25-lap races as well. Super X-Cars, X-Cars and Bandolero 20-lap features round out Saturday’s activities.

Sunday, October 9th gets started with the Belltown Motors Pit Party. Fans will be able to see the cars and meet the stars down on the Speedbowl frontstretch prior to racing. Pit gates open at 7:30am Sunday, grandstands open at 9:00am with the Belltown Motors Pit Party commencing at 9:30am. Following the pit party, racing will begin shortly after noon. The feature lineup Sunday includes 25-lap races for the Legends Cars and SK Light Modifieds, followed by 50-lap features for  the Street Stocks, Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models, Mini Stocks, and SK Modifieds®.

The weekend begins on Friday, October 7th with rotating practice sessions for all Finale Weekend race divisions. Pit gates open at 10:00am, with practice from 12:00pm through 5:00pm. Friday Pit admission is $20.00 and grandstands will be closed.

General admission for Finale Weekend is priced at $30.00 for a two-day adult grandstands pass, with youth age 6-14 admitted for $10.00 for a two-day pass. Two-day pit admission is $40.00 for NASCAR and INEX licensed members and $50.00 for those not holding a NASCAR or INEX license.
