Smacktoberfest ready to smash at Speedbowl

Waterford, CT — This Saturday, October 22 marks the return of an annual favorite at Waterford Speedbowl, Smacktoberfest. The event features the affordable family fun and motorized mayhem Speedbowl fans love.

The Wacky Race championships will crown the wackiest X-Car and Super X-Car competitor of 2011 at Smacktoberfest.  Popular wacky races such as the Flag Pole race and Musical Car race were held as part of the Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday series during the season. They return Saturday in a showdown for bragging rights as the master of madcap. Kristie Hamel of Jewett City and Dan Moon of Exeter, RI are the current leaders in the Wacky Race standings.

The final competitive racing of the year will hit the track with the return of Enduros to the shoreline oval, endurance races for each four and eight cylinder cars. Each of the two events pays the winner $1,000 in a winner take all format. Entries are primarily made up of street cars with added safety measures.

Not to be overshadowed, Smacktoberfest still delivers plenty of the season ending smashing fans seek. The event, the final of the season at the Speedbowl, will serve as a graveyard for cars and trailers of all shapes and sizes. The unpredictable Speedbowl Trailer Race is back for its second and final installment of 2011. The event showcases vehicles, with a trailer in  tow, racing around the track trying to be the last to survive with their trailer and tow vehicle intact and rolling. Trailers  are loaded with cargo, more commonly classified as junk, which quickly become obstacles on the track targeted for  obliteration. Contact is necessary to knock the competitor’s trailer or car out of commission.

Capping the carnage is a Halloween themed Demo Derby, a motorized version of a cage fight which will take place inside a  “box” constructed on the Speedbowl’s front stretch. The always popular spectacle offers  thrill-seekers prime viewing for pulverizing hits. As is the case in a classic Demo Derby, the final survivor of the pounding is the winner.

A youth Halloween costume contest will also take place and fans are encouraged to dress their kids in costume to help set the mood.

General admission for adults is $15.00 with youth ages 6 through 14 just $5.00. Children age 5 and under are free and the Speedbowl offers acres of free parking. The Speedbowl encourages fans to arrive early to pick out a good seat for viewing  and avoid lines. Pit gates open at 3:30pm and the grandstands open at 4:00pm. Smacktoberfest gets underway at 5:00pm For more information and detailed schedule of events, please visit Speedbowl.com or contact the track info line at 860.442.1585.
