Stafford Speedway Adds PASS Super Late Model Event to Its 2012 Schedule of Events
Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway is continuing its theme of change with regards to its 2012 schedule. The 2012 schedule brought with it a host of new events in the form of extra distance and double feature nights, as well as a new Saturday event. The changes to the 2012 schedule continue as the Connecticut half-mile facility has announced that they will host the Pro All-Star Series (PASS) for the very first time on Sunday, August 26.
“We’ve had a lot of guys asking about racing at Stafford through the years and we finally were able to put a deal together with Mark Arute to bring a PASS race to Stafford,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “This is huge for us to get a race in a Southern New England market at a premier race facility. It’s hard to find a facility that is better than Stafford and we’re very excited about this opportunity to race at Stafford Motor Speedway. I’m sure we’ll have a large car count and we may even see some of the PASS South drivers make the trip up to Stafford for this race.”
The PASS Super Late Models will see the return to Stafford of drivers like 4-time PASS North champion Ben Rowe, Mike Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Bill Penfold, and Kelly Moore, who each have prior experience racing at Stafford in Busch North (now K & N Pro Series East) competition. The PASS field also has second-generation drivers like Scott Dragon and DJ Shaw along with drivers like 6-time PASS North Champion Johnny Clark, Scott Alexander, Cassius Clark, Canadian drivers Lonnie Summerville and Alexander Gingras, and many more who will make up the starting field. Moore is a three-time winner at Stafford from the Busch North division and DJ Shaw’s father Dale has driven to victory lane once at Stafford in a Busch North car, which may give them an advantage over the rest of the PASS field.
The PASS Super Late Models will be joined by the PASS Sportsman cars as part of the August 26 show, and as a bonus, Stafford’s Limited Late Model cars will have the option of joining the Sportsman cars in a combination feature. Further event details will be released in the coming weeks.
“We’re excited to bringing the PASS cars to Stafford,” said Stafford Speedway COO/GM Mark Arute. “This is an event that we’ve had discussions about adding to our schedule for some time now, and with our radical new schedule, the timing was perfect to add this event. There is certainly a connection to the old Busch North Series with some of the PASS drivers, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity for our Limited Late Model cars to join the PASS Sportsman cars.”
