2-Time SK Light Champion Matt Galko Searching for Sponsorship to Run Full SK Modified® Season at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — After making his SK Modified® debut in the season ending CARQUEST Fall Final event last season, 2-time defending SK Light champion Matt Galko is hoping to continue his SK Modified® efforts this season. Galko will pilot the #3 Davidson Racing car that was formerly driven by Jeff Malave in the season opening CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler, but if sponsorship is not found, it may be the only race that Galko runs this season.

“We’re definitely going to run the Sizzler, but we need sponsorship to run the rest of the year,” said Galko’s car owner Tim Rowe. “Matt will take over the car from Jeff Malave, who is concentrating on his MRS car this year. Jeff will be helping Matt out and we’re hoping that we can open some eyes at the Sizzler. We’re actively searching for sponsorship and we have a good car, a good motor, and a good driver. I really think that Matt’s talent will shine in the SK Modified® division if we can find sponsorship.”

“We have TJ’s Autobody in Wallingford helping us out with tires for the Sizzler, and NAPA of Wallingford has been helping us out with parts, but we need a sponsor to run the whole year,” said Galko. “We’ve had a couple of meetings so far, but nothing has materialized yet. With the economy the way it is, I can understand why people might not want to sponsor me, but we have a sponsor package put together and we’ve had discussions, but no one has come on board yet. Whether it’s a couple of bucks or a couple thousand bucks, every little bit will help us out. I’d really like to be able to try to win Rookie of the Year this year, I’ve been Rookie of the Year in every division I’ve ever raced in, so it would be nice to try to win that again in the SK’s this year.”

In only a short amount of time, Galko has certainly made his mark in Stafford’s SK Light Modified division. In his first two seasons at Stafford, Galko has won a total of 8 feature races and he has won the track championship in each of those years. Galko made his SK Modified debut at last year’s CARQUEST Fall Final event where he finished 10th after starting 24th in the 32-car field. Galko’s Fall Final experience might have been even better with a fresher engine and he is looking to repeat that top-10 finish in the Spring Sizzler feature event this season.

“We had a really great run at the Fall Final with a 2-year old motor in the car,” said Galko. “We got the motor freshened up and me and my Dad have gone through the whole car during the winter, so I have a lot more confidence with the car than I did at the Fall Final last year. At one point during the Fall Final last year, we were up to sixth behind Teddy Christopher, so if we can back that performance up at the Sizzler, I think we should be a pretty good car.”

While Galko is feeling the pressure of having to run well to possibly attract a sponsor for the 2012 season, he says that he is also dealing with another pressure.

“A good run might open up some sponsorship opportunities for us, so there’s a lot of pressure to get a good finish at the Sizzler,” said Galko. “But there’s also a lot of pressure to not wreck the car while trying to get that good finish. We have money for tires and gas and things like that, but we don’t really have the money to fix the car if we get into a bad crash. It’s hard to focus on doing well on the track when you don’t know how many races you’re going to do, but once you get on the track, you’re not really thinking about any of that, you’re just focused on getting the car to the front.”

For sponsorship opportunities on the #3 car, call Tim Rowe at 203-619-2366, or Matt Galko at matthewgalko@yahoo.com.
