Legion Speedway Launches Season With Successful Test and Tune, Memorial Day Weekend Grand Opening Set for Sunday Afternoon

WENTWORTH, NH – Promoter Wally Brown set just one absolute criteria for the Legion Speedway Test and Tune session at the drivers meeting last Sunday. “We’re all just here to have fun and just because we have a pair of wreckers sitting on the infield doesn’t mean we have to use them. I don’t want anybody to need a wrecker all day long.”

That threshold was met as drivers from all the weekly racing classes managed to make it back to the pits with all four wheels touching the ground. One or two were the worse for wear and a pair needed a push, but none needed the hook.

A representative sample of cars was on hand from the Forward’s Garage Modifieds, the Papa Z’s 600cc Mini Sprints, the Street Stocks and the Outlaw Mini Stocks. In addition, cars from the Beard Sewer and Drain Sprint Cars of New England, which will be appearing three times at Legion this season, had their wings sailing above the 50 trailer dump loads of fresh clay that have been laid down on the quarter mile surface.

The twilight racing season at Legion Speedway officially gets under way this Sunday, May 27, with a Grand Opening sponsored by S.K. Bean’s Enfield Garage.

Racing begins with hot laps at 4:15 pm and the first green flag at 5:00. Adult admission is only $10, with Juniors and Seniors at $8.00. Kids 11 and under are free with an accompanying paid admission and money saving Family Pack is just $25. Parking is always free. Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, Legion Speedway is located on NH Route 25 at the Rumney/Wentworth town line and is easily reached via either I-93 or I-91.
