Vermont State Late Model Championship Hopefuls Heading to Devil’s Bowl Early

Scott, Cyr, others to race Devil’s Bowl Speedway Friday in preparation for June 8 event

WEST HAVEN, VT – An all-star pack of stock car drivers will come to Devil’s Bowl Speedway one week early this Friday in preparation for the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series 100 on June 8. Drivers will use the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series J&S Steel Late Model feature at the Carrara Masonry & Concrete/Mobil 1 event on Friday, June 1 to gather notes for the second round of the Vermont State Championship the following week.

The Vermont State Late Model Championship Series opened last Sunday at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre with the 50th annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100. Nick Sweet took the win after a long mid-race battle with Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott of Berlin, VT.

Scott, a three-time track champion at Thunder Road, is one of nearly a dozen outside drivers expected to swarm into the Devil’s Bowl Speedway pit area this Friday for Carrara Masonry & Concrete Night presented by Mobil 1 in anticipation of the Vermont State Championship event one week later. It is expected that he will be joined by former Thunder Road, Devil’s Bowl, and American-Canadian Tour champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT, three-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion Jamie Aube of North Ferrisburg, VT, and multi-time Canaan Fair Speedway and Twin State Speedway champion Aaron Fellows of Croydon, NH, among others.

“I liked Devil’s Bowl. I remember how smooth it was,” Scott said. He raced to a sixth-place finish in his one previous appearance at Devil’s Bowl in May 2010. “We finished sixth that day, but I hope we can do better in the State Championship races.”

The invaders will have tough company when they arrive for Friday’s Carrara Masonry/Mobil 1 event, though; J&S Steel Late Model point leader Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT has posted back-to-back victories, and has been tested at the front by Rutland, VT drivers Kevin Elliott and Chris Wilk, Matt White and Norm Andrews of Northfield, VT, Charlestown, NH’s Bryan Town, Dan Petronis of Mechanicville, NY, and rookies Danny Sullivan and Johnny Chesnut.

Joining the Late Models on Carrara Masonry & Concrete Night presented by Mobil 1 will the Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, Renegades, and Bombers. Gates open at 6:00pm, with green flag racing set for 7:30pm. General admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, six miles north of Exit 2 on US Route 4. For more information, call (802) 265-3112 or click www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com.
