PASS Super Late Models & Rusty Wallace at Thompson This Thursday

Thompson, CT — The Pro All Star Series 75 tops the bill this Thursday at the Thompson International Speedway. The Super Late Models of the PASS Tour have been a mainstay and a fan favorite at Thompson for several years. These extremely fast race cars traditionally offer an excellent race program of qualifying heat races and an edge-of-the seat feature races.

To make the program even more enjoyable, California Paints will bring their “Storm System” spokesman, Rusty Wallace, the 1989 Sprint Cup champion and soon-to-be inducted member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame to Thompson for a brief meet and greet session with fans and company employees. A few lucky fans will be given the opportunity to have Rusty answer their questions and he will also sign a limited number of autographs.

The current PASS points leader, Travis Benjamin of Morrill, Maine, will lead a strong field of these amazing race cars to Thompson. Chasing Benjamin in the points standings are other top contenders Johnny Clark, Cassius Clark , Joey Doiron, and D.J Shaw. Johnny Clark is the defending 2011 race winner. Local favorite, Derek Ramstrom, sits sixth in the current points standings but is expected to be a serious contender for the race win. Ramstrom won the event back in 2009. Ramstrom will find some tough local competition as well. Ted Christopher has landed a ride for the PASS 75-lap main and this sets the stage for another rivalry to unfold.

The PASS Super Late Models will qualify for their 75-lap feature event through heat races. Heat races will also be the means of qualifying for feature races for Thompson’s own “Super 6” NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions.

The points battles for the Thompson divisions are heating up at the season’s midpoint. Ryan Preece sits atop the Sunoco Modified points total with John Lowinski-Loh, Jr. holding the number one spot in the Thompson Modified division. Late Model competitor Tommy O’Sullivan holds a slim margin in his division and LKQ/Keystone Lite Modified driver, Cam McDermott is riding high in the points standings. The XTRA/MART Limited Sportsman division ha Scott Sundeen leading the charge and Chad Baxter has the lead in the Monster Mini Stocks.

Grandstands will open early at 1 PM with practice starting at 1:30 PM. Qualifying is slated to start at 6PM. The day’s complete schedule is available on the Thompson web page. www.thompsonspeedway.com.
