Fan Appreciation Party a Big Part of UNOH Showdown Weekend
THOMPSON, CT — A fan appreciation party will kick off the Sunday morning activity on September 9th at the Thompson International Speedway. This event always draws hundreds of fans seeking autographs and pictures from their favorite Whelen Modified Tour drives. The Fan Appreciation Party will be held for an hour and a half beginning at 10 O’clock Sunday morning.
This opportunity for race fans of all ages to meet, talk with and enjoy a few minutes with their favorite driver from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour has become a very popular tradition at Thompson.
It is a rare for sports fans to be able to get this kind of access to their favorite athletes. However, it has been a staple of NASCAR racing for fans to be able to meet and greet their racing heroes. At Thompson, not only do fans get to talk one-on-one with the drivers, but they also get to see the race cars first hand since the entire front stretch of the track is filled with race cars from all divisions competing on Showdown weekend.
The grandstands will open at 10 AM and fans will be able to go out onto the speedway at 10:30 AM. Many purchase items at the track’s souvenir trailer or photo booth for autographs. Others will bring something special with them for that very special signature. Fans are also urged to bring cameras to capture that unique moment forever.
The Fan Appreciation Party is just one of the many things that make this race event special. It is the only time that both the Whelen Northern Tour and the Whelen Southern Tour meet on such terms. Each Tour will compete in their own 75-lap feature event before the best from each Tour are combined for a no-holds-barred, 50-lap race with a $15,000.00 pay check awaiting the race winner.
Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Super 6’ divisions will also play a big role in this two-day race program. Racers will qualify on Saturday with all but two feature events slated for Sunday. The LKQ Lite Modifieds and the Thompson Modifieds will be in the spotlight on Saturday when their feature events will precede time trials for the Modified Tours.
The Speedway Club House will be the center of social activities for the weekend with breakfast served both Saturday and Sunday mornings and a great evening of food, drink and music will make for a very special Saturday night.
Tickets for this incredible racing weekend are available by calling the track office at 860-923-2280.
