Joey Cipriano Teaming with Steve Greer to Make SK Modified® Debut in CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend
Stafford Springs, CT — After finishing third and second in points in his first two seasons of SK Light competition at Stafford, Joey Cipriano, III will team up with Steve Greer to drive Greer’s #19 Gunsmoke Stables Ford Mustang in this weekend’s CARQUEST Fall Final event. Greer has had several drivers, including Ted Christopher, James Civali, Doug Coby, and Ryan Preece, behind the wheel of his #19 in limited races in the past, and now Cipriano will add his name to the list of drivers who have held the controls of the #19. Cipriano was a teammate to Greer during the 2011 season in the SK Light Modified division and now they will be reunited as Cipriano looks to make his SK Modified® debut.
“We had talked back and forth with Joey last year about possibly doing something, but he was focused on his SK Light efforts and we could never put something together,” said Greer. “Joey certainly has more experience now in a more powerful car with his MRS experience this season, so hopefully he can transfer that experience over to the SK Modified® this weekend. Joey is obviously very familiar with the track with his SK Light experience, so we’ll see how it goes. I won’t put anyone in the car who I don’t think can win, and my crew and Joey’s crew work well together, so it was an easy decision to put Joey in the car. We’d be happy if we could get a top-10 finish this weekend.”
In only two full seasons and one part-time season, Cipriano has accumulated a dearth of not only experience, but success at Stafford. In his rookie season of SK Light competition in 2010, Cipriano managed one victory on his way to finishing third in the season long points standings. The 2011 season saw Cipriano improve his numbers to 6 victories and a second place finish in the points standings.
Cipriano has made limited starts at Stafford during the 2012 season, racing in the Shark Cycle and Lincoln Tech 80 Valenti Modified Racing Series events. Cipriano also branched out into the Late Model division, taking the wheel of the #33 Late Model for one race this season. Cipriano has finishes of 12th and 15th in his two VMRS starts after starting outside the top-20 in each race, and he started at the back of the pack in his Late Model start and drove to a 7th place finish.
