QUALIFYING: Brunnhoelzl Setup For Success
Caraway Pole Win Starts Possible Championship-Clinching Night
ASHEBORO, N.C. – On a night which he can clinch his third championship the best-case scenario would be a start from the pole position and that is exactly where George Brunnhoelzl will be.
Brunnhoelzl, out of West Babylon, N.Y., won the Coors Light Pole Award in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic Shoot-Out 150 on Saturday at Caraway Speedway. It is his fourth pole win of the season and the 17th of his tour career. All four poles this season have come at Caraway where he also has nine career wins. He worked his way around the .455-mile oval in 15.829 seconds for an average lap speed of 103.481 mph.
Jason Myers – Brunnhoelzl’s closest championship contender – qualified second, just off the pace, with a time of 15.844 seconds (103.383 mph). Myers sits 48 points behind in the standings and it is imperative that he pick up six points on Brunnhoelzl tonight to have any title hopes in the season finale on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
Brian Loftin, who was fastest in practice earlier in the day, was third fastest in qualifying with a time of 15.914 seconds (102.928 mph) while rookie Kyle Ebersole checked in at fourth with a 15.931-second lap (102.818 mph). Andy Seuss rounded out the top-five qualifiers at 15.935 seconds (102.793 mph).
The remainder of the top 10 is made up of Danny Bohn, Tim Brown, Burt Myers, Frank Fleming and John Smith.
The Mid-Atlantic Shout-Out 150 is scheduled to get underway at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.
