Pennink and Christopher Hope To Repeat At Thompson
Canaan, NH. – Huntingdon Valley, PA., driver Rowan Pennink and Ted Christopher, of Plainville, CT., winners at Thompson (CT) Speedway this season, hope to be able to repeat this weekend when the Valenti Modified Racing Series competes at the annual World Series of Speedway Racing, Saturday night, October 13, for the first time. Track owner Donald Hoenig added the series to the annual event last month.
Pennink won the VMRS race in May while Christopher scored his victory in July. Christopher will wheel Joe Brady’s # 00 car.
Pennink is currently giving chase to two-time series champion Jon McKennedy, of E.Chelmsford, MA. Last week Pennink claimed the victory at Seekonk (MA) Speedway closing the gap to 37 points behind McKennedy in his chase for the title.
Pennink always runs well at Thompson. He’ll need a good run to challenge McKennedy for the championship at Lee, NH., in two weeks.
“I’m excited to go to Thompson coming down to the closing of the season,” said Pennink. “Gonna have to start 18th there but the 25 car is always strong at Thompson so hopefully we’ll be back up front.”
Top point men including McKennedy, Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT., Norm Wrenn, of Nashua, NH., and Louie Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, MA., are all entered in Saturday’s event. 9-points separate Pasteryak and Wrenn in their battle for third in the standings.
Other entries include Les Hinckley, of Windsor Locks, CT., Tommy Barrett, of Millis, MA., Doug Coby, of Milford, CT., Todd Owen, of Somers, CT., and Max Zachem, of Preston, CT.
The VMRS will battle in a 75-lap feature scheduled for a 7:30 PM start. Qualifying races will be run at 2:15 PM.
