Burt Myers Ready To Add Another NSS Title

SOPHIA, N.C. – Burt Myers is one of three multi-time North-South Shootout champions, and the Walnut Cove, N.C., driver isn't shy about wanting to win a third Tour Modified title to his resume next weekend.

“Winning the North-South Shootout, it's like winning a heavyweight prize fight,” Myers said. “It's the best Southern cars against some of the best Northern cars. Not only do I want to win the Shootout again, but I want to win one at Caraway Speedway, too, because I haven't won there in a while.”

The 10th annual Colors Edge John Blewett III North-South Shootout presented by PPG is scheduled for next week – November 8-10 – at the historic Caraway Speedway. Already, nearly 30 Tour Modifieds have entered the 125-lap, $6,000-to-win main event.

Myers was the 2008 and 2009 North-South Shootout winner, breaking up a run of dominance by Pennsylvania driver Matt Hirschman – who has one four of the last six North-South Shootouts in the Tour Modified ranks. As added incentive for Myers and the No. 1 Citrusafe/Adams Towing/Trantham Moorefield Enterprises Ford, Phoenix Pre-Owned Motors is offering a $1,000 bonus to the highest finishing NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour-based driver in the event.

“The last Tour race we had at Caraway, we had a very good car, but we had an early-race incident,” said Myers, who has 10 career Whelen Southern Modified Tour poles on the .455-mile oval. “The nerf bar got jarred loose, and it fell off and I got black-flagged. We definitely had a Top-3 car. We're taking the same car back next weekend, so I feel really good about it.”

The PASS Super Late Models share top billing at this year's North-South Shootout with a 150-lap feature event. The SK Modifieds will also race in a 50-lap event, part of seven different divisions competing in feature races at the Colors Edge John Blewett III North-South Shootout presented by PPG. After an open practice day on Thursday, November, 8, practice and qualifying will be held on Friday, November 9. Consolation rounds and feature racing are slated for Saturday, November 10.

Legends, Lite Modifieds, Sportsman and Super Trucks join the North-South Shootout lineup as part of over 600 laps of feature racing at Caraway Speedway on Saturday.

Even with the influx of both southern- and northern-based Modified teams, Myers said that there's no home field advantage for the southerners.

“You can set up to go to Caraway and be good, and another time you can go back with the exact same setup and it's totally different,” Myers said. “I don't think anyone has an advantage. The format is so different from a Tour race, with the tires and qualifying and everything else, it really evens the playing field.”
