Unique Path Ready to Culminate in Dare Stock Debut at Stafford Motor Speedway for Bryan Iwaniuk
Stafford Springs, CT — When the DARE Stock division takes the green flag for the first time in 2013 at Stafford Motor Speedway, Middletown native Bryan Iwaniuk will fulfill a vision that was two years in the making. Whereas most drivers purchase a chassis and motor to go racing with, Iwaniuk has taken the old school approach of building his car from scratch to make his debut.
“This has been a 2-year project for me,” said Iwaniuk. “I looked at a lot of cars, but it seemed like every car that I looked at needed a front or rear clip, or had been crashed at some point. My brother was putting together a 1985 Monte Carlo and he needed parts, and all I needed was the frame and the engine, so we went halfs on a 1986 Monte Carlo SS and he got the parts he needed and I got a frame and engine to work with. It worked out really well for both of us.”
Iwaniuk formerly raced Street Stocks at Oxford and Wiscassett in Maine, and he also has done some drag racing, but he says he chose to race at Stafford this season because of the race program.
“I used to do some racing in Maine, and we had some top-5 runs,” said Iwaniuk. “I almost won a race, but the motor blew on me. Of all the area tracks, I like Stafford the best,” said Iwaniuk. “It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to race stock cars and I’m at a point now where I have the money to do that. It’s a very smooth operation at Stafford, I really like how everything runs at Stafford, so that’s where I want to race.”
While Iwaniuk has been putting his DARE Stock together for the better part of 2 years, he has some help from Paul Varricchio, Jr. and the Rent a Racecar team.
“I was going down to the Rent a Racecar shop probably like three or four times a week and finally Paul told me to just bring the car to the shop and work on it there,” said Iwaniuk. “They’ve given me a lot of help with the car and I helped Paul out with his Late Model. I’m familiar with the track and my goal is to run the whole season and be in the Paradiso-Muska Shoot-Out at the end of the season. A top-10 or a top-5 in points would be awesome for us, but there’s a lot of drivers with a lot more experience at Stafford than I have, so we’ll just go out and do the best we can and see what happens this year.”
The 2013 season will kick off for Iwaniuk and the DARE Stocks at Stafford with the 42nd Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler on April 26-28, 2013.
