NASCAR Ace Christopher Going for Another Indoor Win at Atlantic City
Ted Christopher Heads to NAPA Auto Parts Weekend of Racing Atop Fatheadz Point Standings
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — With two solid Indoor race starts logged into their racing ledgers, Plainville, Ct., Three Quarter (TQ) Midget driver Ted Christopher and Champ Kart driver Brandon Ruszcek of Walllingford, Ct. will charge into Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. for two consecutive days of high speed racing action.
The 11th running of the event known since it inception as the ‘Gamblers Classic’, run under the direction of Len Sammons Motorsports Productions, is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 1-2, 2013.
Christopher and Rusczek will face stiff competition from over 50 other racers during the NAPA Auto Parts Indoor Racing extravanganza.
The pair are the leading drivers in the lucrative Fathead Eyewear Indoor Racing Series point standings and each will collect a substantial paycheck if they can continue their December event pace inside historic Boardwalk Hall.
Christopher, winner outright of the December 31 race in Providence, R.I., did so under extraordinary circumstances.
“My crew guy, Bert Marvin, got burned pretty bad and so did I but we persevered,” said Christopher, referring to a freak pitside accident that saw his car burst into flames.
“He didn’t want to go to the hospital, he’s still here and I thank him for that. I had to win for my guys, especially Bert.”
Christopher’s chief opposition is expected to come from Anthony Sesely, the two time reigning champion at Wall (NJ) Stadium, who was second to ‘TC’ in Providence in the race and sits second in the Fatheadz standings.
“My car doesn’t have many races on it and every single time we’re inching a little bit more and a little bit more. It’s a big change from what I’m used to driving,” aid Sesely. Patrick Emerlling, Orchard Park, N.Y., third in the race and third in Fatheadz points, also expects to be in the mix. He led most of the way in the Rhode Island race.
Cody Sieber, Mifflintown, Pa., the Kart winner in Rhode Island, is second in Fatheadz standings to Rusczek. Sieber’s win was the first indoors for the dirt track specialist.
“It feels great to win Indoors,” said Sieber, who races karts outside almost exclusively on dirt tracks. “It was close out there, good hard, clean racing, said Sieber. “It is a good feeling to get a win indoors. It gives our team a great confidence boost.”
Nearly seventy TQ teams and over forty Champ Kart racers have entered Atlantic City.
The two classes will be joined by 600cc Micro Sprints and Slingshots, two divisions that will be racing for the first time during this indoor racing season.
Both types of car have been on the Atlantic City Indoor race schedule in the past and their entry list has been full for over a month.
Overall, more than 200 teams are expected to be vying for starting berths in the four feature races.
Last year’s winners indoors in Atlantic City were Erick Rudolph, who won the Gamblers Classic TQrace and both 600cc Micro main events, Christopher, winner of the remaining TQ race, Simon Egan, winner of the Slingshot race and Chris Daley, victor in the Champ Kart main event.
All 2012 winners are among the entries for the 2013 NAPA Auto Parts Racing Weekend
