Dave Secore, Jr. Ready to Chase his Dream of VIctory Lane in DARE Stock Division at Stafford Speedway for 2013
Stafford Springs, CT — For Dave Secore, Jr., the 2013 season at Stafford Motor Speedway will be a season of chasing after a dream of winning a race. Secore is a fourth generation racer at Stafford Speedway who has ties all the way back to the Stafford Springs Agricultural Park days of the track.
A near fatal accident in the winter of 2001 moved Secore from the driver's seat into a car owner's role. As a car owner, Secore won the 2006 DARE Stock track championship with Norm Sears and Secore has won races with Dan King, Sears, and Don Wood as his drivers. Secore is still without a victory as a driver, which he is hoping to change this season.
"I have a lot of personal connections to Stafford and a win at Stafford is an item that's on my bucket list," said Secore. "A win at Stafford something that has been eating at me for many years, and now that I have medical clearance to drive again, we're going to have some fun this year and try to get that win that has eluded me for so long."
For the 2013 season, Secore will be driving a car that he knows very well. After Sears won the 2006 DARE Stock championship, Secore sold the winning machine. After it had passed through several hands, Secore purchased that same car and he will take it to the track to chase after his first Stafford win.
"After we won the championship with Norm, I sold the car to Don Wood, and then Don sold it to Al Jurczyk," said Secore. "Al only raced it a few times and when I got the car back, it still had the same body panels that I had on it. We have a brand new crate engine from R.A.D. Automachine, so we have some real good equipment and I have a crew with a lot of experience. I've put all the right parts and pieces together and I've asked all the right people for help, now we just have to get on our horse and go out there and do it. I think we have the equipment to win races and contend for the championship. There's going to be a lot of strong competition out there this year, we'll really have to be on our game in order to be contenders."
As Secore chases after his lifelong dream of winning a race at Stafford, he has many people that he would like to thank for their help and support throughout his years of racing.
"Winning a race this year would mean a lot to me," said Secore. "This is something that I've been chasing for a while and without the support of my family and friends, I probably wouldn't be doing this. My wife Laura and my kids have been my biggest supporter, and guys like Norm Sears, John Hurley, Scott Hitchcock, and Bill Kauffman have all been instrumental in helping me put a car on the track. I've also got a lot of help from Rob Dow Racing, Rob Russell, and Rick Casagrande. Rick is someone who we're trying to beat on the track and he's helped me out with parts, which not many teams would do. I remember Woody Pitkat gave me a piece of third-grade paper with some setup notes on it back in 2001 and he told me to try that setup on my car and I still to this day carry that piece of paper with me when I come to the track."
As he chases after his race winning dream, Secore is hoping that he can finish up front as many times as possible during the 2013 season as he's looking to donate his race winnings to charity.
"We want to finish up front as much as we can this year because we want to donate our race winnings to a local charity that is in need of some extra money," said Secore. "I know it's not a lot of money that we race for in the DARE division, but as long as we can pass our winnings along and it helps someone, that would be great."
Secore currently has sponsorship from his own company, Woodpecker Express, but he is searching for additional sponsorship for the 2013 season.
"We're always looking for sponsorship," said Secore. "Right now I have my company Woodpecker Express, but we're hoping to find some extra sponsors. I always say that nickels and dimes eventually start to add up to quarters and dollars."
Secore will have his first opportunity to chase his dream at the 42nd Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler on April 26-28. Tickets for the "Greatest Race in the History of Spring" may be ordered by calling the Speedway Box Office. Tickets are priced at $38.50 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is $42.00 for all ages. All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.
