Former Riverside Park Speedway Modified Competitor Charlie Jones Passes at 71

Charlie Jones, 1941 – 2013

Charles Ernest Jones, 71, lifelong Agawam resident, passed away Wednesday January 23rd at the VA Boston Healthcare in West Roxbury, MA. Born in Ludlow to the late Ernest and Veronica (Carnes) Jones, he attended Agawam Schools.

Charlie served his country honorably in the United States Navy and was employed as a Precision Machinist for various local businesses throughout his career. He was an avid golfer, enjoying all the local courses, and was active over the years in modified racing at several area speedways. If Charlie could swing a golf club from a race car, he would.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jacquelene Czupta. He is survived by his two children; Charles E. Jones, II of West Springfield and Tammie Gulker-Graham and her husband Darryl and their children, Katie, Christopher and Gare of Florida. He also leaves a niece, Michele Czupta and her fiance Mark Cornelius; two nephews, Jeffrey Czupta and his wife Angela and Erik Czupta and his wife Renee and many great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation of Tuesday January 29th from 11 AM to 1:00 PM at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam, followed by a Service at 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Committal Services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to the Fisher House, P.O. Box 230, South Walpole, MA 02071.
