PRACTICE: Brown Turns Quickest Lap
Whelen Southern Modified Tour Teams in Action at SNMP
KENLY, N.C. – Tim Brown had the quickest time in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour practice at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday.
Brown – wheeling his familiar No. 02 Hayes Jewelers/T&C Motorsports Chevrolet – turned a lap of 14.401 seconds (99.993 mph) near the end of the second of two practice sessions, as teams prepared for tonight’s KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink 150.
Three-time tour champion George Brunnhoelzl III was second fastest with a time of 14.422 seconds, at an average speed of 99.847 mph.
J.R. Bertuccio Jr., was third quickest. Woody Pitkat’s fast time in the earlier practice session was fourth quickest overall, while Kyle Ebersole’s time from the first session was fifth overall. Completing the top 10 in practice were Ted Christopher, Ryan Preece, Jeremy Zacharias, Andy Seuss and Burt Myers.
Brown of Rural Hall, N.C., is one of three drivers with a tour win at SNMP and finished second when the tour last visited the .4-mile oval in September of 2008.
He is coming off a disappointing race a week ago in which he dominated the season opener – but ran out of fuel six laps from the finish.
Qualifying for the KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink 150 is set for 12:50 p.m. ET today, with the start of the race scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
