Bernard, Rocco, Welch All Earn Weekend Wins
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – Keith Rocco of Wallingford, Conn., retook the lead with six laps remaining last Saturday night at Waterford Speedbowl, driving away to win the 30-lap Late Model feature at the track for his third win of the young season.
Rocco extended his division point lead with the victory in the Scott Fearn-owned No. 1 Critical Signs Toyota.
“Early in the race I knew (the second-place driver) was fast and he was coming so I really didn’t put up much of a fight,” Rocco said of surrendering the lead just past the halfway mark of the event. “He got under me and I knew he had a better car then, but this Crazy Horse chassis just keeps plugging.
“At the end of the race it was still there and still plugging.”
Not only does Rocco have three wins at Waterford, but the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion also has five Top-3 finishes. He has yet to finish worse than 10th in any feature event at the track this season.
CUP STAR BOWYER TO DRIVE CHR CAR: Thunder Road International Speedbowl announced recently that NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer will compete in the Vermont Lottery Commision Governor’s Cup 150 at the track on July 11.
Bowyer will be in a Richard Green Racing ride for the night, the same car that Crazy Horse Racing built over the winter.
“It’s a pretty cool deal,” said Mickey Green of Crazy Horse Racing, who also serves as a crew chief for RGR driver Travis Stearns on the ACT Late Model Tour. “Obviously, it will make for a busy couple of weeks for us, but how often do you get the chance to work with a driver like Clint Bowyer? I’m looking forward to it.”
Bowyer currently sits third in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings after finishing sixth in the FedEx 400 at Dover, Del., last weekend.
BERNARD STILL ROLLING: Bill Bernard of Holliston, Mass., won his second consecutive Late Model feature at Seekonk Speedway last weekend.
Bernard has won two Late Model features in 2013, just one victory shy of his previous win total over the first six years of his career in the division.
After cutting his teeth on the regional drag racing circuit, the 60-year-old veteran has now posted four Top-5 finishes this season. His last four wins have all come in Crazy Horse Racing chassis.
WELCH RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE: Lancaster, N.H., driver Quinny Welch did something very familiar last weekend at White Mountain Motorsports Park.
He won.
Welch grabbed the checkered flag in the 50-lap NAPA Late Model division feature at the track where he has multiple championships.
After a 15-lap battle at the start with Travis Fadden, the current division point leader, Welch sailed off to victory for his first of the season at the high-banked quarter-mile.
Fadden, who also won the first ACT Late Model Tour race of the season at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., sports a new front clip that Crazy Horse Racing bolted on the car in the offseason.
STRONG DEBUT: Mike Kenison of Lancaster, N.H., won his qualifying race for the ACT Late Model Tour Bond Auto 150 at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, N.H., last Sunday afternoon.
It was Kenison’s first time out in the brand new Crazy Horse Racing entry.
Kenision was running 15th in the 29-car field before rain halted the race with 29 of 150 laps complete. The race will resume on June 23.
