Championship Battles Up for Grabs at Thunder Road
BARRE, VT — After Sunday’s twilight event at Barre’s Thunder Road, the championship point standings are as tight as ever across all divisions heading into Harvest Equipment night at Thunder Road this Sunday, June 16.
The King of the Road title fight remains close in the Late Model division with three points separating the top five in the overall standings. Three former Late Model Champions top the standings, with Dave Pembroke and Jean-Paul Cyr tied for the lead, and reigning King of the Road Nick Sweet just two points behind in third. Behind Sweet is another tie between young talents Derrick O’Donnell and Cody Blake, who sit just three points out of the lead.
The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen are even more deadlocked as Hyde Park, VT’s Tucker Williams took over the points lead followed by a three-way tie between veterans Eric Badore, Mike Ziter, and David Finck, just one point behind. Josh Demers holds on to the fifth position, only three points out of the top spot.
In the Allen Lumber Street Stocks, Dean Switser survived a blown motor last Sunday to hold on to a 6-point lead over Hardwick, VT’s Bunker Hodgdon. The all-time wins leader in the division, Tommy “Thunder” Smith, is just two points behind Hodgdon in third, with Morrisville, VT’s Jamie Davis in fourth overall. Defending Street Stock Champion Nick Pilotte rounds out the top five, fourteen points out of the lead.
The championship chase will continue this Sunday, June 16 at Kid’s Night at Thunder Road, presented by Harvest Equipment. Kids 12 and under will get free admission to the track, a free hot dog, and race car rides with the local stars will begin at 1:15pm. Gates open at 1pm. Post time is 4pm.
