Kids Night On Deck for Thunder Road
BARRE, VT — On Sunday, June 16, The Nation’s Site of Excitement Thunder Road will open the gates with free admission for kids 12 and under with a full card of racing action and special events for the whole family.
Racecars from Thunder Road’s Late Model division, Bond Auto Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will be lined up at 1:15pm to give rides around the quarter-mile oval to kids in attendance. Thunder Road will also be giving out a free hot dog to all kids.
Kids night at the races has become a tradition at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement,” dating back decades into Thunder Road’s history.
“I remember riding around the track with the great Stub Fadden,” said Thunder Road fan Gary Chase. “That was by far the best kids night for me.”
“We used to have 15 kids hanging out of the Dragon Wagon!” said fan Dan Hill, referring to the car of stock car racing legend Beaver Dragon. “I’m not sure we could get away with that these days,” he laughed.
The racers enjoy the unique Thunder Road event equally as much.
“I think it’s a very cool thing for our young fans at Thunder Road,” said Nick Sweet, the defending Late Model Champion. “For some, it gives them a taste of what we do and puts the bug in them, for others it’s just a cool experience. It’s great to see their faces light up as we go around the track,” he finished.
Kids night comes to Thunder Road with free admission and free hot dogs for children 12 and under this Sunday, June 16 presented by Harvest Equipment. Kids rides start at 1:15pm. Post time is 4pm.
