PRACTICE: Santos Leads at Stafford
Winner Of Last Two SMS Tour Races At It Again
STAFFORD, Conn. – One gets the feeling that Bobby Santos has Stafford Motor Speedway figured out.
A winner of five of the last 11 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at the historic half-mile – including the previous two – Santos is once again looking like the car to beat for tonight’s TSI Harley-Davidson 125 presented by G-Oil.
Santos, from Franklin, Mass., posted a fast lap of 18.400 seconds (97.826 mph) in practice Friday afternoon at Stafford to lead the 27 entries for tonight’s event.
In the tour’s last race at Stafford on April 28 he led practice, won the pole and took the checkered flag in the race. That came on the heels of his win in the 2012 Stafford Fall Final.
Santos was followed closely on Friday’s practice speed chart by Rowan Pennink at 18.406 (97.794) and Jimmy Blewett at 18.414 (97.752).
Ron Silk, Todd Szegedy, Eric Goodale, Doug Coby, Ted Christopher, Mike Stefanik and Zane Zeiner rounded out the top 10 in the 60-minute session.
Coors Light Pole qualifying is slated for 6 p.m., with the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 set to go green at approximately 9:15 p.m.
