Sbm 125 Modified Open Goes Green at Star Speedway this Weekend

EPPING, NH- The anticipation for Saturday’s 3rd annual SBM 125 Modified Open is at an all-time high and so is the payoff, which will bring more than 30 race teams to Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire from at least eight different states together for one special event paying more than $45,000 in all.

What separates this race from others is not only the fact that it is the only race that will include race teams from all four tour-type Modified touring series’ and the Star Speedway regulars, but that there are $13,670 in bonus payoff money that makes this event a fun one for both fans and drivers alike.

For instance, there is a $250 award that will be paid to the highest finishing driver competing at Star for the first time. Titled the “Messina’s Flooring of Salem, N.H. First Timer Award”, drivers Zane Zeiner, Justin Bonsignore, Austin Kochenash, Steve Masse and most likely Woody Pitkat will compete for this bonus.

The winner of all four heat races will get an extra $50 from Tisdell Transmissions of Derry, N.H., and the fastest last lap of those qualifying races will get an extra $100 bonus from Mountainside Graphix.

The last car on the lead lap after the 125 laps will get $250 extra for the, “Dedication to Racing Award in Memory of Ricky Miller.” The first car who is one lap down has an incentive as well. A $220 bonus goes to that team, “In Memory of Ann Pullen” from Mainely Motorsports.

Exeter Decorating has been a part of the SBM 125 from the beginning. This year the interior decorating store located just five miles from Star will pay $200 to the driver who wins the “Tough Luck Award” as voted on by the media. The highest finishing driver who arrives with a single car hauler will get an extra $200 from race fan Steve Mendoza.

There are three “Hard Charger” awards to encourage drivers to race hard. One is a fuel bonus from Sunoco for gaining the most positions from start to finish. The driver who finishes best among the four “B-Main” entrants will get an additional bonus from A-1 Automotive of Ashland, Mass. Finally, Woody’s Auto of Pelham, N.H., pays the driver who impresses the fans the most a $200 bonus.

Fast Track Concessions of Star and Thompson will add $500, split among the top three Star regulars in the final rundown. The “Race Depot” will add $100 to that. Swanson Buick GMC of Acton, Ma. and Northeast Race Cars and Parts have teamed up to pay the race leader at halfway $300, while SPAFCO Race Chassis pays $150 at halfway “In Memory of Denise Barry.”

The highest finishing RoC regular gets $200 from fan Fred Wilcox, and Rockingham Boat will do the same for the NASCAR Modified Tour. Lu-Mac’s Package Store Plus of Preston, Ct and Cliff Nelson Racing combine to pay the Valenti Modified Racing Series bonus of $200 plus a 30-pack.

The list continues with honors such as the Highest Finishing Father” for $100 from Carl Rice, the “Waddell Communications Pole Award” and $100, the “Danger Designs Best Appearing Car Award”.

Highlights of the night will be the $350 “Chuck Montville Car Owner of the Race Award”, Lap money totaling more than $7,000. Most impressive of all is the $100 to every team who qualifies from Jim Schaefer. He will also pay $2,000 to drivers who do not qualify. Additional money is being added by T-shirt sales, which will bring eight of the top ten drivers at halfway up to $300 each.

A 50-50 raffle is adding even more money to the purse, with prizes from NASCAR teams and many other places. A total of more than 100 prizes in all will be handed out from that, while at the same time quite possibly pushing the purse total to an all-time Star Speedway record of over $45,800.
