Lots of Action Happening at Lee!

LEE, NH — The full moon was shining over the Lee USA Speedway this past Friday night and the Benson Hardware Small Block Supers paid the price. Serious wrecks necessitated three red flags in the first four laps and eliminated a half dozen cars including the leader “Super Dave” Sanborn and the previous feature winner Jon Booth. Defending division champ Tommy Tombarello went on to win the shortened event, becoming the 6th different winner of 2013.

JR Baril outran a hard-charging Grant Aither and the rest of a 16 car field to win his 2nd 35 lap Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman feature. James Piaseczny checked out in the David’s Race Cars & Components feature, leaving Paul Palen and Chris Jacobson in a frantic fight for second.

Evan Horvath prevailed for the second week in a row in the slam bang 15 lap American Used Auto Parts Ironman feature event. But the most spectacular event of the night was the 20 lap E-Keys for Cars Classic Lites feature event. Myles Devits surged to the front in the race’s late stages and performed the most incredible burn-outs of all time at Lee USA. It was his first ever Classic Lites victory and he was a very happy camper. Popular local driver Chris Sullivan was second, his first ever podium finish. Both drivers are in the hunt for DJB Inc. $1,000 point fund awarded at the conclusion of the five race series at Lee USA. The Grand Finale will be on Octoberfest Weekend.

This upcoming Friday night will feature one of the most exciting and most prestigious events on the Lee USA calendar. The Valenti Modified Racing Series comes to town for their Annual Port City 100 presented by Laticrete. Laticrete is a family owned and operated construction solutions manufacturing company located in Bethany, CT dedicated to the improvement of a variety of building materials in the areas of water proofing, sound proofing, floor warming, adhesives, motars, grouts, and more with local distributors in Manchester and Derry . Laticrete is also a big supporter of modified racing and we look forward to welcoming them back for their Annual Port City 100 each and every year.

In last year’s event rookie driver Tommy Barrett Jr. came to Lee USA with something to prove. He charged from last to second and attempted to dive under defending series champ Jon McKennedy with just 10 laps to go. The two collided in turn three, and several other drivers piled into the melee. In the ensuing 10 lap scramble, two more leaders were taken out and PA driver Rowan Pennick dodged the wreckage to prevail in the 100 lap event.

Barrett was given a two race suspension and for a while dubbed the series bad guy. But Barrett came back in the 100 lap series finale on Oktoberfest Weekend and won in equaled spectacular fashion establishing himself as one of the best up and coming modified drivers in the northeast. Last Friday night Barrett won his first Valenti Modified Series race of 2013 at Stafford Motor Speedway and took over the series points lead. He’s headed back to Lee USA and on another mission. Other Valenti Modified Series winners expected to compete in the Port City 100 include Rowan Pennick, Louie Michaledes, and Steve Massey.

Fans can expect a large field of thundering modifieds competing in intense 12 lap heat action for the 24 starting positions. The 100 lap event will feature 100 green flag laps for some of the most exciting racing seen at Lee USA all season. Small Block Supers, Hobby Stocks, and Ironman divisions will complement the racing program. Racing starts at 7:15 PM

The Port City 100 presented by Laticrete is just the first of three events to be held during Fourth of July Week at the Lee USA Speedway. On Tuesday, July 2nd Radio WOKQ and the Shark will present a Monster Truck Show and Giant Fireworks Display to celebrate our nation’s birthday. Rochester Sports Center will co-sponsor the show and the night will include the second round of spectator drags. Action will begin at 7:15PM.

On the following Friday night, July 5th, Prime Storage will present the Firecracker 100 for the late model sportsman. The division has been building in the past few weeks in anticipation of the longest and richest late model sportsman event of the season. Everyone wants to win the Firecracker 100. Hobby stocks and Ironman divisions will be included on the program. Racing starts at 7:15PM.
