VMRS to Celebrate 10 Years with Lee USA Speedway Friday
Lee, NH — Only two New Hampshire speedways hold the distinction of being there since the beginning. Jumping on board early on when the Valenti Modified Racing Series began 10 years ago. Winchester’s Monadnock Speedway and the famed Lee USA Speedway share the honor.
This Friday night, June 28, the 3/8-mile speedway in Lee will host the popular open wheel modified series for the 10th consecutive summer. The Laticrete sponsored ‘Port City 100’ will be contested as part of the 10th annual celebration of New England’s premier modified racing organization.
Since June 9, 2004, when Jim Boniface captured the inaugural event, Red and Judy MacDonald, owners of the facility have welcomed the series to their race facility.
A hotly contested battle for the points lead continues after four completed races. Following last weeks race at Stafford, CT, the top five positions in the standings has shuffled a bit. The closeness of the points chase is expected to provide for some great racing at Lee.
Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis, MA, victorious at Stafford this season and Lee last fall, moves into a tie with Louie Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, MA, with 132 points each. Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, is only two points back in third, with Richard Savary, of Canton MA, 18 points back in fourth, and Steven Masse, of Bellingham, MA, fifth, 24 points from the lead.
The current top five drivers are expected to enter the Lee event.
Reigning and three-time series champion, Jon McKennedy, of E. Chelmsford, MA, is expected to compete. Veteran Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT, will be looking for his first win of the year.
McKennedy and Mechalides are former ‘Port City’ winners
Racing gets underway at 7:00 PM
