PRACTICE: Silk Revs Up at Riverhead
Fastest In Hoosier Tire 200 Practice
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Ron Silk led the way in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice Saturday afternoon in preparation for the Hoosier Tire 200 at Riverhead Raceway.
Silk toured the .25-mile oval on New York’s Long Island with a fast lap of 11.917 seconds (75.552 mph), recorded late in the 90-minute afternoon session.
Owner of nine career Whelen Modified Tour triumphs, Silk will look for his first at Riverhead this evening. His best finish in seven career starts there is second, in 2009.
Reigning Riverhead track champion in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Shawn Solomito was second on the board at 11.961 (75.245) followed by three-time Riverhead tour winner Ted Christopher at 11.993 (75.044).
Defending race winner Ryan Preece, Donny Lia, Doug Coby, David Roys, Eric Goodale, Dave Brigati and Timmy Solomito rounded out the 10 fastest cars of the 28 entered.
Coors Light Pole qualifying is slated for 5 p.m., with the Hoosier Tire 200 set for a green flag at approximately 8:30 p.m.
