Kimball Roars to Monadnock Checkered on All States Asphalt Night

WINCHESTER, NH — Starting from his outside pole position, Bill Kimball of Bennington, NH, claimed the lead at the drop of the green and never relinquished that spot.

A lap 3 yellow flag for Brain Chapin of Palmer, MA slowed Kimball’s’ bid for victory, but only briefly. On the restart Kimball picked up right where he left off. Meanwhile, behind him Steve Fifield of South Deerfield, MA worked over pole sitter Joe Kendall of Winchendon, MA, passing him by lap 4. Then it was Dan Stebbins of Bernardston, MA, catching and passing Kendall. By lap 8, your points leader Tyler Jarvenpaa of Orange, MA, whom started in the last row, ran on the outside of Kendall for a lap, then gained the upper hand and took over fourth place. On lap 9, caution flew again for a back stretch crash between Glen Reen of Wilbraham, MA and Keith Carzello of Somers, CT. Both cars were eliminated for the remainder of the race. The restart had Kimball leading with Fifield, Stebbins, Jarvenpaa, and Kendall in hot pursuit. This restart was no different as Kimball was on a rail regaining the lead. Stebbins nosed his mount under Fifield, working his way into runner up spot.

Contact between Adam Norton of Brookfield, MA and Kendall resulted in Kendall’s flat tire and his double 360s off of turn 2, bringing out caution flag #3.

When the field went back to green, Fifield pulled a power move on Stebbins and regained second place, but could not mount a serious attack on Kimball. With the laps winding down, Norton caught and passed Jarvenpaa for the fourth spot. The fourth and final yellow flag appeared on lap 23 for a spin by Brian Chapin in turn 4. A single file restart kept everyone in Kimball’s rear view mirror as he drove away. Norton applied a ton of pressure on Stebbins but could not make the pass. At the finish line, it was Bill Kimball winning his first of the year in the Edmunds Hardware Sportsman Modified, with Fifield second, Stebbins holding on for third, Norton, Jarvenpaa and the steadily improving Nate Johnson of Fitzwilliam, NH fourth through 6th, respectively.

Heat winners were #44 Chapin and #5 Stebbins.

Ed Brehio III Claims First Win in Super Stock Feature

When Nancy Muni of Harwinton, CT and Tyler Lescord of Ascutney, VT brought the field to green, Ed Brehio III of Baldwinville, MA wasted no time looking to better his position, by going 3 wide down the back stretch and then wisely backing off. By lap three, Brehio raced by Lescord on the inside for the lead, but a spin by Craig Smith of Newport, NH brought out the yellow and Lescord regained the lead.

The restart had Brehio on the outside of Lescord, which the #29 used to his advantage to pull into the lead. Meanwhile, John Lavoie of Hancock, NH, whom has made multiple trips into victory lane, powered his way past Lescord for second.

Brehio and Lavoie ran single file, stretching out and pulling away from the rest of the pack, and Dennis Stange of Athol, MA put himself into third place. Lavoie could close in on Brehio but was only able to follow. Brehio’s heart must have skipped a beat when on lap 21 a lapped car got loose in front of him, and the #29 had to take evasive action to avoid trouble. The remainder of the race was smooth sailing for Brehio as he raced his #29 to his first win of the year in the 202 Truck Equipment sponsored Chevy. Lavoie was happy with second place this night and Stange had a strong run to finish third.

Lescord and Lavoie were heat winners.

Rivet Returns to the Winners’ Circle

Kevin McKnight, Jr. and DJ Lazelle brought a highly competitive field of Minis to green. Lazelle used the outside groove to lead for the next 8 laps until Kim Rivet powered her way from the third row to take the lead spot away. A strong run by Beth Adams saw her move through the field, working past McKnight on lap 10, and putting her on the heels of Rivet. Not wanting the two ladies to run away with the show, lap 11 saw Louis Maher take a run at McNight and pass him for third. Maher slowly gained on Rivet and Adams, but could only watch as Adams worked over Rivet, trying to take that top spot. By lap 20, Mike Stebbins and points leader Chris McTaggart broke free and formed a five car freight train until a lap 25 caution halted the action. Under yellow Maher pitted out of his third place run. On the final two laps, Rivet held off Adams to take the first win in 2013 for the #99.

Matt Kimball Wins His Second of the Year

Young Gun Matt Kimball showed dad he could do it too, by leading from start to finish in the Young Guns feature. Joe Collins, looking for his third win of the year, moved into second but never could make a pass on the leader. Joel Monahan, making his best run of the year, held on for a third place podium finish.

Noll Runs to Monadnock Win

Duane Noll of Meriden, CT must love the high banks of Monadnock because he comes, he races, and he wins. Noll passed Tony Lafo of Higganum, CT on lap 3 and never looked back. Chris Correll of Montville, CT mad his move on Lafo on lap 4, wrestling second place from Lafo and following Noll until a lap 13 caution yellow. DJ McGouren of Westerly, RI had hit the back straightaway wall, but was able to continue. The restart gave Correll the needed opportunity to race Noll on the outside for two laps, but Noll’s ride was too strong and he held off Correll for the next five laps to take the victory.
