PASS North Prepares for TD Bank 250 Tune Up this Weekend at Oxford
NAPLES, ME — After nearly two months off due to rainouts, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models were finally able to get back on track during the Fourth Of July weekend holiday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Now, focus shifts to two big weekends of racing at Maine’s legendary Oxford Plains Speedway. This Friday night, the PASS North Super Late Models hit the track at Oxford for race number 5 of the 2013 season. In addition to being a make-up race for the rained out events at White Mountain Motorsports Park and Speedway 660, this weekend’s 150 lapper will serve as a major tune up for the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 to be held at Oxford Plains Speedway just over a week from now.
PASS North teams will not only be trying to focus on Friday’s nights race and the implications it holds towards this year’s championship battle, but will also start formulating strategies for the TD Bank 250. Beech Ridge winner Cassius Clark comes to Oxford as the only two-time PASS North winner in 2013 and knows a good run on Friday night can set a team up as the favorite heading to next weekend’s $25,000 to win TD Bank 250.
“This is a very important race for the Hight Motorsports team,” said Clark. “We feel like we are headed in the right direction with our flat track set ups and this will be a great test being only a week from the TD Bank 250.”
Clark moves up to second in the PASS North championship battle after his win at Beech Ridge, just 22 points behind championship leader Joey Doiron. Doiron has been the picture of consistency this year being the only driver to finish in the top five in every race. Defending PASS North champion Travis Benjamin has been nearly as consistent and sits third in points just ahead of DJ Shaw and two-time TD Bank 250 winner Ben Rowe.
A great field of drivers is expected Friday night as teams make their final preparations for the 40th Annual TD Bank 250. In order to accommodate teams competing at Oxford Plains this weekend who were not at the rained out event on June 23, PASS officials have decided that there will be a consolation race for those teams to round out the field. To be eligible cars must run all 20 laps of the consolation race to ensure comparable tire wear for all. Additional cars added to the field will not be eligible for points, just the purse. Only cars who were at Oxford Plains for the original race on June 23 will be eligible for points.
Pre-entries for the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 at Oxford continue to come into the PASS offices including North Carolina racer Daniel Hemric, who made his Super Late Model debut with PASS at Orange County Speedway back in 2010, Derek Kneeland, returning to Maine after several years spotting in the Sprint Cup ranks, Washington State legend Garrett Evans, a four-time Northwest Tour champion, Quebec’s Kevin Roberge and Marc-Andre Cliché, and 2001 PASS North Super Late Model champion Sam Sessions.
Action gets underway Friday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway for this weekend’s 150 lapper with rotating practice for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Outlaw Sportsman, Mini Stocks, and Street Stocks from 4 PM to 6:40 PM, followed by heat races and main event racing afterwards.
