PRACTICE: Lia Leads in Loudon
Fastest In Morning Session At “Magic Mile”
LOUDON, N.H. – Donny Lia led the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field Friday morning in Town Fair Tire 100 practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Lia, from Jericho, N.Y., posted a fast lap of 130.891 mph late in the nearly two-hour practice session.
The driver of the No. 4 Circle Track Magazine Dodge, Lia will look for his third career win at NHMS this weekend. His first two came in his championship seasons of 2007 and 2009. He was also the Coors Light Pole winner in the tour’s last trip to Loudon in September 2012.
Also making a late charge up the speed chart in practice, Bryon Chew finished second on the board at 129.732 mph. Ted Christopher, who led the majority of the session, finished third at 129.644 mph.
Todd Szegedy, Ron Yuhas Jr., Andy Seuss, Bobby Santos, Ryan Preece, Doug Coby and Eric Goodale rounded out the top 10 of 32 cars that participated in practice.
Three cars had trouble during the session. Defending race winner Mike Stefanik and Justin Bonsignore both suffered engine issues and are going to back-ups while Jacob Dore – a first-time tour participant – suffered an accident with right front damage.
Coors Light Pole qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour is slated for later today at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The Town Fair Tire 100 is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., and will air live on SPEED.
