Advance for this Friday, August 2nd at Lee USA Speedway
LEE, NH –Lee USA Speedway has reschedule the 50 lap Hobby Stock event which was scheduled for last Friday night will be held this Friday night, August 2nd. The event is the highlight of the season for the David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stocks. Jim Piaseczny and Patrick Tanguay have been on top of the point standings all season. Piaseczny has three wins and Tanguay just got that elusive first win a few weeks ago. Other hobby stock winners in 2013 include Wade Worster, Paul Palen, Billy Clement, and David MacDonald.
David and Annette Joyce of David’s Race Cars and Components are long-standing sponsors of the division and many of the competing cars were built in their Derry, NH shop. Many more have benefitted from upgrades and specialized components from David’s Race Cars. For nearly 40 years, “It’s the right place to turn left.” Hot rods, street rods, custom cars and other automotive fabrication projects are also some of their specialties. Even if you’re planning on going straight, Dave Joyce may still be the man to talk to.
This Friday night will also feature 3rd Quarter Championships in all four Whelen NASCAR Weekly Racing Series divisions. Tommy Tombarello, the big winner in the 2nd Annual “Money Bags Race” heads the Bensons Hardware Small Block Super modified standings ahead of Ryan Gath and Michael Netishen.
The last time the Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman appeared at Lee USA, Grant Aither won the Firecracker 100 for the third year in a row. He leads the division points chase . Alby Ovitt has yet to taste victory this season, but consistent podium finishes has lifted him to second while some hard luck has dropped JR Baril to third.
Travis Hollins leads Hannah Shaw and Evan Horvath in the American Used Auto Parts Ironman division. Some of the best racing action this season has been provided by this relatively inexpensive entry level division. In two weeks, they will compete in their showcase event of the year, the Harvest 200. The Lee USA Speedway management is going to extraordinary measures to expand the ranks of this division in order to enhance the entertainment value to the racing fans and to hopefully bring more participants into the sport.
The Lee USA Speedway has one Ironman car on display in the midway for sale and plans to build more. Anyone interested in purchasing a turn-key Ironman car or anyone interested in getting information regarding the Ironman Division should contact the track office. A major event paying $1,000 to the winner is being planned for Oktoberfest Weekend. If successful, more such events may be coming next year.
The final Spectator Drag event of the season will also be held this Friday night. The one on one race will be open to the first 18 entries. All participants must have a registered street legal vehicle, seat belts, and a helmet.
The blockbuster event of the season at Lee USA is coming up Friday August 9; the Ollie Silva Memorial Mid-Summer Classic for the big block ISMA Supermodifieds. Favored in the 75 lap event is Ontario Canada’s Mike Lichty who has won three ISMA events in row, the latest in Sandusky, OH last Friday night. He blew up in the Hy-Miler finale on Sunday handing the win to second generation supermodified driver Dave Shullick Jr. Litchy hopes to rebound at Lee USA in an effort to defend his ISMA Championship.
Six time champ Chris Perley and “Liquid Lou” Cicconi in the Vic Miller team cars both have ISMA victories in the season and consider Lee USA their home track. Many of their local fans are sure to be on hand to cheer them on. Perley is a past winner of “The Classic.”
Other local favorites include former Lee USA Small Block Supermodified Champions Eddie Witkum Jr. and Dan Bowes, Justin Belfiore, Jamie Timmons, and two time Valenti Modified Champion Jon McKennedy. The night will also feature Lee USA Small Block Supers, Hobby Stocks, and the return of the popular NEMA Lites.
Racing this Friday night will get underway at 7PM. Pits open at 5PM.
