NEMA Returns to Airborne Speedway on August 3

Marvuglio & Bertrand Motorsports Seek Back-to-Back Wins

Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY will host the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites on Saturday night, August 3. Ending a four-decade hiatus, this will be the third NEMA event at the progressively-banked, 4/10-mile oval. A pair of NEAR Hall of Famers showed the way on July 20, 1968. Dave Humphrey won the inaugural race in the #1 Pascale Offy over George Monsen and Ronnie Evans. NEMA made another appearance on August 7, 1971 with Jerry Wall and his #5 Yellowjacket Chevy V-4 taking the victory over the late Don Keller and Butch Walsh.

Fresh off his first win of the season at Waterford, Anthony Marvugilo will drive the Bertrand #74 once again. “(I’m) just looking forward to going back to a big track,” Marvuglio said. “I feel like I can excel there. The bigger the track, the better. I’ve heard it’s the nicest track and I’m looking forward to bringing the #74 back to the front, where I have to start in the back because I won the last race. But the main thing is to keep the car in one piece, have fun and let this track be a great learning experience.”

“I love new tracks,” car owner Tim Bertand said. “We are extremely on our game with setups – and can adapt very quickly. I like new tracks better than old ones!”

“From the videos I have watched – it looks like a cross between Oswego and Stafford with a little more banking,” Bertand said. “We’re going to shoot for a set up in between.”
