PRACTICE: Santos Still Fast at Stafford
Led CARQUEST 150 Whelen Mod Practice Friday Afternoon
STAFFORD, Conn. – Bobby Santos knows Stafford Motor Speedway.
The pole winner in three of the last five NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races there, and victor of two of the last three, Santos once again pacing the field at the historic half mile after he led afternoon practice for the CARQUEST 150.
Santos, a native of Franklin, Mass., led the 26-car field with a fast lap of 18.465 seconds (97.482 mph) in the one-hour afternoon practice session.
Ron Silk finished second-fastest in practice at 18.526 (97.161) followed by defending race winner Doug Coby at 18.566 (96.951).
Todd Szegedy, Ted Christopher, Mike Stefanik, Cole Powell, Bryon Chew, Rowan Pennink and Donny Lia brought home the top 10.
Season points leader and winner of the last Stafford tour race, Ryan Preece finished 11th on the speed chart.
As the victor of the CARQUEST Spring Sizzler earlier this season, Santos is eligible for the CARQUEST Triple Crown bonus of $25,000 of the same driver wins all three Whelen Modified Tour races sponsored by the company at Stafford this season.
Coors Light Pole qualifying for the CARQUEST 150 is slated for 6 p.m., with the race set for approximately 9:15 p.m.
