Kingsbury Nips Donnelly in Modifieds, Colbeth Tops Coupes; Giguere Wins Late Models, Nelson First Time Winner in Hornets
BRADFORD, VT – With over 30 different winners so far this season in the 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series stock car program at Bear Ridge Speedway the new winner trend continued on Interstate Batteries of New-Mont Night on Saturday. Evan Kingsbury, Jason Colbeth and Traci Nelson took center stage in three electrifying races to light up the night and their names to the winner’s list.
Evan Kingsbury, of Bradford VT, posted his first Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified win of the year in a narrow finish, defeating Chris Donnelly by just .173 seconds. .Tim Tucker led the first seven laps before Kingsbury, who started fifth on the grid, used the topside to annex the lead. Donnelly, who started 18th in the 20 car field patiently worked his way to the front, arriving in second with just three laps to go. Eddie Patterson and reigning track Champion Adam Pierson waged a race long battle for the next position with Patterson claiming third and Pierson fourth. Tim Hodge completed the top five.
Newbury, VT’s Jason Colbeth won the 30-lap Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe feature for his first win of the season. Veteran Steve Ellsworth led the first 16 laps of the 30 lap event from the pole before Jesse Smith moved into the top position after an intense battle with Ellsworth. Meanwhile Colbeth was using the topside to perfection from his 13th starting spot. Colbeth moved past Smith with just three laps remaining to register the win. Smith was second with Ellsworth third. Rick Fletcher was fourth and Josh Harrington rounded out the top five.
West Lebanon, NH hot shoe Jason Giguere was back in victory lane after a one week hiatus in a caution plagued event for the Laquerre’s Sports Limited Late Models. Giguere caught his break when race leader Jason Blake spun unassisted out of the top spot, taking then second place runner Eric Lang with him. Giguere powered into the lead on the restart and handily led the rest of the way. Jeremy Hodge, Matt Ellsworth, Brian Chaffee and James Fadden completed the top five.
Tim Martin of White River Jct., VT found victory lane once again in the 20-lap Weglarz Property Service Fast Four race. Martin took the lead after a brief but intense battle with Kevin Harran to take the lead and roll to the win in the non-stop affair. Harran was second with Charlie Pickering third. Rookie Traci Nelson of Lunenburg, VT posted the first win of career on dirt in the 20-lap KDD NAPA Auto Parts Hornet race, defeating Brent Warren with point leader Stan Otterman coming from the rear to finish third.
