Bourgoine Continues VIP Thunder Dominance

Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour: VIP Thursday Thunder

SCARBOROUGH, ME — Fighting threatening thunderstorms once again on a Thursday night, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round six of VIP Thursday Thunder. With just two different winners so far this season, the point’s battle was tight between Matt Bourgoine and John Peters for the championship with just a handful of races left. With both drivers starting at the rear of the field along with Reid Lanpher, the racing would be fast and furious at the front to see if there would be a third different winner.

On the pole was the Thursday Thunder rookie Alicia Perry in the 12 car with the 10 of Ed Getty on her outside. On the start, Getty used the outside to motor his way into the lead, but right behind him was a scramble for positions. Just a handful of laps into the race, Matt Chagnot was able to grab the lead with Dan Winter and Bob Weymouth right behind him. Just seven laps into the lead behind the top three, the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu made contact in turn one, spinning both drivers out in turn one while the field took abrasive action to avoid them. On the restart, it was Matt Bourgoine from the rear of the field who was able to make his way into the front of the field. The caution would come out again with just a handful of laps to go though, as Getty broke a rear end and spun in turn one. That would give Reid Lanpher a shot at Bourgoine, and the two raced each other for the win while John Peters joined the battle in third. With just a lap to go, Peters motor went up in flames, bringing out the caution and checkered flags, giving Matt Bourgoine the win! Lanpher finished second with Dan Winter scoring his first top three finish in third. Ryan Hammar finished fourth while Beaulieu rallied back for fifth.

While the final few races were rained out during VIP Thursday Thunder, that didn’t stop the teams from taking part in the always popular autograph session at the end of the evening. The thousands of fans that were there to watch the action were able to meet all of their favorite Legends Cars drivers. With the win, Bourgoine now holds a 41 point lead over Peters while Beaulieu sits third, 49 points behind. Next week the Tour will be back for round seven of VIP Thursday Thunder, with racing starting at 7PM at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, tickets are just $4!
