QUALIFYING: Lia Thunders at Bristol
Track Record For 2009 Mod Tour Champ
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Donny Lia thundered to a track record in Coors Light qualifying for the TitanRoof 150 on Wednesday at Bristol Motor Speedway in the annual NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination event.
Lia of Jericho, N.Y., got around the .533-mile high-banked oval in 14.806 seconds for an average speed of 129.596 mph behind the wheel of his No. 4 Circle Track Magazine Dodge. The time eclipsed the record time of 14.835 seconds (129.343 mph) established by Justin Bonsignore on Aug. 18, 2010.
Starting alongside Lia on the front row for the race will be Bryon Chew, who posted a time of 14.843 seconds (129.273 mph). The second row will be made up of Whelen Modified Tour points leader Ryan Preece, who recorded a qualifying time of 14.854 seconds (129.177 mph) and Eric Goodale with a time of 14.883 seconds (128.926 mph).

Todd Szegedy, Doug Coby, Tim Brown, Ted Christopher, Burt Myers and Bonsignore rounded out the top-10 qualifiers of the session. Brown was the top-qualifying Southern Modified Tour driver.
Lia, the 2009 Whelen Modified Tour champion, won the inaugural Bristol event that season. This was his 17th tour career pole and first of the 2013 season.
