Scarborough, ME — Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Pro Series 40-lap feature event was won by Gorham’s veteran Steve Berry.
At the drop of the green, Durham’s, Evan Beaulieu, paced the 20-car field to the green flag and led the field until a caution on lap ten bunched them back together. Beaulieu maintained his lead over Tyler King, of Livermore Falls, on the restart and battled side-by-side with him until a second caution flew on lap 19.
Beaulieu was involved in the caution handing the lead to Don Colpritt, Jr, of Scarborough. On the restart, King maneuvered his way by Colpritt going into the first corner to take the lead from him on lap 20.
At the halfway mark, points leader Mike Rowe, of Turner, had successfully broke inside the top-five after starting in his 16th starting position and put himself in contention for the win.
A caution five laps later was helpful to Berry who started 10th in the event and safely raced his way up to the runner-up spot by the caution. The outside lane choice by King on the restart proved unsuccessful as veteran Berry was able to take the lead from him en-route to his first victory of the season.
For Berry, it was his first victory of the 2013 season and first victory since August, 2012. Points leader Rowe, edged Gorham’s Dan McKeage on the last lap to finish 4th, while McKeage finished 5th.
