Kendall Nails First Win This Year; Wood Powers Way to Monadnock Win
Kendall Nails First Win This Year
Joe Kendal of Winchendon, MA has been close to a feature win this year, real close, and Saturday night he finally pulled off his first Modified Sportsman win of 2013. Kendall used the fast outside groove to lead by lap one, with pole sitter Alyssa Rivera from Bellows Falls, VT dropping in behind. By lap 10 Brian Chapin of Palmer, MA took his new power plant to the front and raced by Kendall to become the new leader. Chapin held that spot through 2 cautions, but on lap 14 Chapin created his caution when a front suspension part broke on his mount and he gave the lead back to Kendall with Steve Fifield following in second. Nate Johnson of Fitzwilliam, NH has showed lots of improvement recently and was setting in 3rd at the restart. After a lap 15 caution, the restart went single file and Kendall held on to his lead. With a couple of laps to go, Fifield’s car tried to get away from him allowing Johnson and points leader Bill Kimball of Bennington, NH to slip by. Fifield regained control and held on for 4th. At the finish line Kendall streaked across first, Johnson turned in an impressive 2nd, Kimball 3rd, Fifield 4th, and Tyler Jarvenpaa nabs 5th.
Wood Powers Way to Monadnock Win
After falling out of last week’s Super Stock feature while leading, Josh Wood redeemed himself by leading at the drop of the green flag. Wood, from Palmer, MA over-powered Nancy Muni-Ruot of Harwinton, CT and held off a potent field of drivers through 3 yellow flags to take down his first win on the fast high banks. Points leader Ed Brehio III of Baldwinville, MA looked like the man to beat as he raced through the field. A lap 10 restart gave Brehio the opportunity he needed to shoot by Wood on the outside, to become the new leader. Behind the duo, John Lavoie of Hancock, NH, Craig Smith of Newport, NH and Dave Striebel of Hinsdale, MA jockeyed for the 3rd position. With the aps winding down and only three to go, Wood gave it his best shot and nosed inside Brehio, finally inching ahead and passing under the checkered flag first. Behind Wood, Brehio was 2nd, Lavoie, Smith and Striebel rounded out the top 5.
