Stafford Shark Cycle 80 Next for Valenti Modified Racing Series

Canaan, NH. – The Valenti Modified Racing Series kicks off the Labor Day weekend with a return trip to Stafford Motor Speedway for the 4th annual running of the ‘Shark Cycle 80’ Friday night, August 30.

The race will mark the drive to the series title with only four events remaining after Friday, one of them a return engagement next month at the Stafford half-mile.

Current point leader Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, leads the standings heading to Stafford. He tops Tommy Barrett, of Millis MA, last years August winner at Stafford. Barrett moved ahead of Louie Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, MA, in the point standings after last weeks Monadnock race. Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, Ct, and Richard Savary, of Canton, MA, make up the top five. All top-five point men are expected at Friday’s event.

Ted Christopher, of Plainville, CT, will join Pasteryak, winner of the 2011 event. Christopher won the inaugural race in 2010.

Additional expected competitors include, three-time series champion Jon McKennedy, of E.Chelmsford, MA, Charlie Pasteryak, of Lisbon, Max Zachem, of Preston, CT, Norman Wrenn, of Nashua, NH, Anthony Nocella, of Woburn MA, and Todd Owen, of Somers, CT.

A close battle for top rookie honors continues with Dana Smith, of Sunapee, NH, holding a three-point lead over Dylan Kopec, of Palmer, MA.

Qualifying heat races begin at 6:15 PM. Series drivers sign autographs at 7:30 PM.
