QUALIFYING: Seuss Sizzles Setting Record
New Mark In Whelen Southern Modified Time Trials At Langley
HAMPTON, Va. – Andy Seuss set a track record at Langley Speedway on Saturday in winning the pole for the Newport News Shipbuilding/Bayport Credit Union 150 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race.
Seuss turned a lap of 14.771 seconds at an average speed of 95.051 mph in his No. 11 Phoenix Pre-Owned Motors/Tammie Davis Chevrolet, eclipsing the record of 15.365 seconds (92.548 mph) set by Burt Myers in 2011.
Fourteen other drivers were beneath the previous track record in qualifying. George Brunnhoelzl III was second quickest with a lap of 14.784 seconds (94.968 mph). John Smith, Tim Brown and Renee Dupius completed the top five. Sixth through 10th were Danny Bohn, Kyle Ebersole, A.J. Winstead, Patrick Emerling and Burt Myers.
This marks the eighth career Coors Light Pole Award for the Hampstead, N.H., driver – but it’s his first this season and first at Langley. Seuss has one win and three top five finishes in three starts at the .395-mile track.
Tonight’s event, the eighth of a 12-race schedule, is set to go green at 8 p.m. ET.
