Rain Interrupts Speedway 95 Program

HERMON, ME — Rain caused postponement of the 40 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 on Saturday night and shortened the 25 lap Sport-Four feature to 21 laps. At the end of the 21st lap, Donny Silva of Hudson was in the lead, and was declared the winner when the event was stopped due to rain. Just prior to the last lap run under green, the race was halted three times before lap 20 could be completed. Ted Ryder of Carmel was in the lead when the first yellow flag was thrown on lap 20, with Silva having come from the rear of the field to the second spot by lap 10. Ryder’s lead was substantial at the time, but Silva was slowly catching the season’s points leader. When the first yellow fell, Silva lined up beside Ryder for the restart. When the green fell, the duo raced side by side until the yellow fell for the second time. Again they lined up side by side for the restart, and stayed that way when the green fell again. As they approached the start finish line side by side for the third time on lap 20, the yellow flew again. On the restart, Silva was able to forge ahead of Ryder and hold the lead until the caution came out for rain on lap 21. After circling the track for about ten minutes, the race was called official, the remainder of the program scrubbed, and Silva was declared the winner. Ryder finished second with pole sitter Andrew Crosby finishing third. Fourth went to James Goodman of Orrington with Brock Worster of Kingfield finishing fifth.

Alex Berry of Harrington made it two in a row in the Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets after taking the lead from Matt Kimball of Cornville on the 14th lap of the 25 lap feature. Berry maintained his lead for the final 11 laps, but the field behind him swapped positions several times before the checkers fell. Shelby Kimball of Cornville finished in second after recovering from a spin early in the race that sent her to the rear of the field. Jeremy Glasier of Appleton finished third, taking that position from Matt Kimball on the 24th lap. Matt Kimball finished fourth with Emma Libby of Glenburn in fifth.

Kris Matchett of Skowhegan picked up his second win of the season in the Darling’s Ford Sportsman by outdueling Hermon’s Kris Watson and Milford’s Joe Legere for the lead in the first half of the race. Legere finished in second with Watson taking third in an uncharacteristically ill handling race car. Fourth went to Bradley Smart of Bradley with Mike Overlock of Franklin taking fifth.

Mark Lane of Newport bested a field of young drivers from the Wednesday night Stars of Tomorrow division who have moved up to the Bomber division after the Wednesday night shows finished for the season. Second place finisher William McCullough of Kenduskeag, third place finisher Trey Brown of Winterport and fourth place finisher Dylan Street of Old Town were all ex stars of tomorrow moving up to the regular Saturday night show. Fifth went to Scott Bonney of Bangor.

On Saturday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Speedway 95 will host the 3rd annual Touch a Truck Fair to benefit Camp Capella, a summer camp for disabled children. At 5:00 p.m. the regular racing show begins with the postponed Dysart’s Late Model feature from August 31 being the first race on the agenda. Following that, qualifying will begin for the regularly scheduled features in the Dysart’s Late Models, Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Keystone Automotive Strictly Streets, Sport Fours and Bombers, and the feature races will follow.
