Pepsi Presents Championship Night At Lee USA Speedway

LEE, NH — It’s all come down to this. This Friday night September 6, Pepsi presents Championship Night for all four NASCAR Whelen Weekly Racing Series divisions at Lee USA Speedway. For many drivers , the success or failure of a season long effort will be decided on this last Friday night event of the year.

Until recently, defending Bensons Lumber & Hardware Small Block Supermodified Champ, Tommy Tombarello had a firm grip on the points lead, but in the past few weeks, he has faltered while his primary rival Mike Netishen has risen to the occasion. A late race spin by Tombarello allowed Netishen to take the lead in the 30 lap double point’s event last Friday night. Netishen went on to win while Tombarello recovered to finish ninth. The victory moved Netishen to within 9 points of the leader, a mere 4 positions on the track. Should a similar dramatic event occur this Friday night, a major upset could be in the making.

One of Lee USA’s most popular drivers Sparky Macgiver is securely in third in the standings on the benefit of a long string of second place finishes over the course of the season, but so far that first checkered flag has eluded him. He has one more chance this Friday night. A mere 14 points separate Ryan Gath, Jake Stergious, Ricky Wolf, and Keyser all fighting it out for fourth.

Grant Aither won his sixth feature event of the season in the Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman Division last Friday night locking up his third title at Lee USA while only 10 points separate JR Baril and Alby Ovitt in a battle for second. Rookie driver Travis Hollins appears to be on his way to his first track championship in the American Used Auto Parts Ironman Division. In second through fourth is Dana Shaw, Evan Horvath, and Tyler Mitchell with only 13points between them.

The season-long battle has been in the David’s Race Cars & Components Hobby Stock Division where Patrick Tanguay and Jim Piasecny have been locked in duel on the top of the standing that rarely was separated by more than a few points. Piasecny has three wins to Tanguay’s one, but Tanguay has stretched his lead to 16 points as the season nears its conclusion, clearly within striking distance of Piasecny. Paul Palen and Wade Worcester are not far behind and could become factors in the season point’s finale.

With the regular season winding down, the Annual Oktoberfest is just around the corner. Fourteen divisions will be featured at Lee USA Speedway’s Season Finale on October 11 thru 13. Included are:

The starting lineup of the first segment will be determined by heat races. The lineup for the second segment will be the inversion of the first. The lowest point score will be the big winner.

The Lee USA Speedway is expecting a large field of cars for the event in an effort to build a solid entry-level division for years to come. Two cars have been made available for sale. Those interested can call the track office or Lee USA NASCAR Tech Inspector Joe Bassett at 978-580-7962.
