PRACTICE: Shawn Solomito Tops Charts
Jumps To Top Spot Late In Session
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Shawn Solomito led the way in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice Saturday afternoon in preparation for the Green Earth Technologies 200 at Riverhead Raceway.
Solomito toured the .25-mile oval on New York’s Long Island with a fast lap of 12.032 seconds (74.801 mph), recorded late in the 75-minute afternoon session.
A 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified Division Champion at Riverhead, Solomito will be making just his third Modified Tour start at the track this evenining. He finished fourth in the tour’s fist stop at the track earlier this season.
A pair of previous Riverhead winners, Ryan Preece and Donny Lia, were next on the board at 12.045 (74.720). Preece enters the weekend as the tour points leader and defending event champion. He’ll try to make it three in a row at Riverhead later tonigh.
Timmy Solomito, Todd Szegedy, Frank Vigliarolo, Jr., rookie John Beatty, Jr., Howie Brode, Doug Coby and Ron Silk rounded out the 10 fastest cars of the 31 entered.
Coors Light Pole qualifying is slated for 5:15 p.m., with the Green Earth Technologies 200 set for a green flag at approximately 8 p.m.
