Nick Sweet Invited to Bond Auto ACT Invitational
Waterbury, VT — Nick Sweet from Barre, VT capped off his Vermont State Championship title win at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, in Fair Haven, VT on Sunday, September 15, 2013 with an invitation to the 5th Annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) today. Sweet will replace Donald Theetge of Quebec City who had to cancel his invitation because of a business conflict.
Sweet, a two-time Thunder Road Champion, had previously been invited, but after five weeks of testing the new tires for the 2014 ACT season, he decided that he needed to take an ‘off weekend’ to prepare his car for the season finale People’s Bank Milk Bowl event held at Thunder Road, October 5-6.
“When Tom (Curley), (President of the American Canadian Tour), called me and asked if there was any chance I could take the spot because Donald could not make it, what’s a guy to say to that? Bond Auto is in my home town of Barre. I love racing at NHMS. It’s NASCAR Cup weekend. We will put some overtime in when the Invitational is done. This is sure to put some energy into the team this week and hopefully that can carry over to the Milk Bowl,” concluded Sweet.
Sweet was runner-up in the inaugural Invitational race held in 2009–he lost the opener to Eddie MacDonald from Rowley, MA. He was also the runner-up to MacDonald in the closest finish in Invitational history, in 2011.
“I went to school in that second Invitational. After the bad wreck the middle of the year (2010) I really wanted to bring the win home in 2011. Eddie is a great racer anywhere, but with all his experience at New Hampshire, he showed me how to win on the final turn of the race. Maybe we can turn that around this year,” said Sweet.
The Bond Auto ACT Invitational will take green at 4:30 this Saturday (September 21) afternoon as part of a spectacular triple header which also features the NASCAR Whelen Modified FW Webb 100, and the NASCAR K&N Series North American Power 100. Racing actions starts at 12:15.
