Big November Set as PASS South Racers Look Forward to Major Events
CHARLOTTE, NC — As the leaves begin to fall and temperatures become more brisk, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model teams are making final preparations for two of the biggest events of the season. First, PASS South racers will head to Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC on November 9th to race as part of the 11th Annual North-South Shootout. Then, the 2013 season will come to a close on November 23rd with a big 200 lapper at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, NC as part of the 8th Annual Mason Dixon Meltdown. Both races carry a great deal of prestige in the short track racing community and will feature an array of unique divisions in addition to the PASS South Super Late Models, including the Tour-type Modifieds at Caraway and Must See Xtreme Racing Sprint Cars at Southern National.
The North-South Shootout will feature a 150 lap event for the PASS South Super Late Models on the tough .455 mile oval. The Shootout has become known as a “can’t miss” event for short track fans, particularly fans of the Modifieds. But, last year’s hard fought contest for the PASS South Super Late Models which saw current points leader Jay Fogleman hold off rising start Ross Kenseth in a thrilling finish, has fans clamoring to see more from the “Big Boys With The Bad, Fast Toys.”
Rookie Cole Timm heads to Caraway Speedway full of confidence for a good run in the North-South Shootout. Timm currently sits fifth in PASS South points with a best finish of fourth coming at Southern National back in June. With a strong run at Caraway last year in the PASS Pro Late Model division and another good run going in the Super back in May, Timm feels like the time is right to make his name in a high profile event like the Shootout.
“We qualified third at Caraway earlier in the year, but had some motor problems in the race that took us out of a good finish,” said Timm. “It definitely helps going back to some of these places two and three times. Getting more experience helps every week. The Shootout and the Meltdown are both big races, there’s going to be a lot of good cars there and we are going to go out and try to do our best for sure.”
Another rookie who has been equally impressive this year in PASS South is Georgia’s Spencer Davis. Davis has shown steady improvement throughout the year and currently sits third in points behind veterans Fogleman and Kyle Grissom. This year’s Mason Dixon Meltdown will be Davis’ first try for a checkered flag in the big race, but not his first time racing at Southern National Motorsports Park. As a matter of fact, Southern National could very well be Davis’ best track on the circuit. In June, Davis won the PASS Pro Late Model race there and led the most laps in the PASS South Super Late Model event. He followed that up by scoring his best career PASS South finish in August, finishing in fourth. All of those factors have Davis confident heading into this year’s Mason Dixon Meltdown.
“I can’t wait to go back to Kenly, I’ve always liked that track and we had a real good run there last time,” said Davis. “We’ve been working the kinks out of this new car and I think we finally got it figured out. Hopefully we can repeat our last run there and pick up those last three spots and keep the brakes up under the car this time.”
Action gets under way on Friday, November 8th for the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway with practice and qualifying for the PASS South Super Late Models that afternoon. On Saturday, November 9th, racing will start at 2 PM featuring 150 laps for the PASS South Super Late Models, 125 laps for the Tour-type Modifieds, 50 laps for Southern Modified Lite, 25 laps for Legends, and 50 lappers for the Limited Late Models and Late Model Supertrucks.
Two weeks later on November 23rd, the PASS South and PASS National Champions will be crowned at Southern National Motorsports Park as part of the 8th Annual Mason Dixon Meltdown, which will also feature the Must See Xtreme Racing Winged Sprint Cars, PASS Pro Late Models, and Mini Cups.
The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America’s premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as the PASS Northwest Triple Crown at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, PASS South’s Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway, the Autobus La Qubecoise Triple Crown at Autodrome Chaudiere, and the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.
