Cole Powell Looking to End Season with Victory

Rides in ARCA, Nationwide Possible for NASCAR WMT ROY

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Cole Powell of Mount Brydges, Ontario will be competing in two major races starting this weekend at Caraway. Powell is racing at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC for the North-South Shootout. Powell reported on his Twitter account that his #73 Copps BuildAll / Tricar Developments Modified was quick in practice on Thursday. “The 73 machine was pretty good today. (The) car showed a lot of speed and rolled the corners great. Looking forward to qualifying tomorrow.”

Powell plans to race a Super Late Model in the prestigious 46th-annual Snowball Derby for Brad Keselowski Racing. The “development car” will be a teammate to regular driver Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, ME. The $22,500 to win event is December 8th at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Inside Track Motorsport News first reported the story.

“(I) was looking for a ride and through connections it kind of came together,” Powell said.

Powell was honored this year with the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award at the end of his first full-time season.

“We learned a lot,” Powell said. “It’s a good series and I think were gonna be a lot stronger next year.” Powell’s best finish of the season was 9th at Stafford in August. New Hampshire Motor Speedway is his favorite track.

Powell will return for another season on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. “We’re just going to take it race by race and try and win as many as we can and if we’re in the points battle at the end that would be great but we’re not going to make a big deal and put a lot of pressure on ourselves.”

For 2014, he is also “trying to get some ARCA and Nationwide rides lined up.” Powell reported that driving deals are “pretty close”
