ISMA Supermodifieds Returning to Oxford Plains Speedway in 2014
OXFORD, ME — Oxford Plains Speedway President, Tom Mayberry is pleased to announce that the ISMA Supermodifieds will return to Oxford Plains Speedway in 2014 after several years’ absence. The ISMA Supers will be in action on Friday night, June 20, 2014. The event will be sponsored by Locke Crane Service.
“We are so excited to have the ISMA organization back with us here at OPS stated Mayberry. These super sleek machines are so lightening quick, that they will keep the fans on the edge of their seats for entire 75 lap event. The “Winged Warriors” are known for their two and three wide racing, and Oxford Plains Speedway’s racing surface will be the perfect place for them to perform at their finest!”
The Friday night event will honor one of the all time greats of the sport, as the legendary Bentley Warren will be the honorary Grand Marshall for the event, as the event will be dubbed as the Bentley Warren ISMA Classic. Warren is a four time ISMA Series champion, and currently sits in third place all time all time feature wins list with 47 victories.
Today, ISMA continues at the forefront of Supermodifieds sanctioning bodies, pioneering the franchise system, in which teams purchase a franchise at the beginning of the season. Creating a win-win situation for both the teams and promoters, each of the franchise teams are allowed to miss up to three shows during the race season while being guaranteed a minimum starting purse of $1,000 at each event. This system helps to ensure solid, stable car counts and a successful event for the promoter. Over the past decade, ISMA has sanctioned between 13 and 17 shows a year, including two of the prestigious Supermodifieds races – the July Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky (Ohio) Speedway, which has been a staple ISMA event since 1978, and September’s Star Classic at the quarter-mile Star bullring in Epping, New Hampshire, an event that has a history dating back over 40 years.
The Supermodifieds join an exciting lineup of special events for 2014 including the 41st Annual Oxford 250, the 2nd Annual Monster Truck Throwdown, The Colossal Carnage 150, the $7,000 to win Enduro, the NAPA Show, Shine and Drags, as well as the 2nd Annual Tom Mayberry Swap Meet & Flea Market.
