2014 Whelen Modified Schedule Announced

Fourteen Race Schedule Covers Seven Tracks

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 2014 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule features a strong lineup of traditional dates along with a pair of marquee non-points events.

The Whelen Modified Tour’s 29th season will see 14 championship points events spread across four states. Added to the season-opening non-points UNOH Battle At The Beach at Daytona International Speedway is another special event paired with the June visit to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

When the tour makes its summer visit to New Hampshire, the points race on Saturday, July 12, will be preceded by a unique, invitation-only 25-lap shootout the day before. The race will feature a limited field and is only open to past NASCAR Whelen Modified and Whelen Southern Modified Tour champions and race winners, along with 2013 Sunoco Rookies of the Year for both tours.

“The passionate Modified fans take their racing very seriously,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series. “This year’s calendar will give those fans ample opportunity to enjoy the thunder of the Whelen Modified Tour cars along with its many stars at tremendous and competitive racing facilities.”

The 2014 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule rundown:

Daytona International Speedway – The season will get underway on Feb. 18 with a non-championship race for the second straight season on the short-track oval at the “World Center of Racing” with the return of the UNOH Battle At The Beach.

Thompson Speedway – The racy .625-mile oval will host the regular season opener on April 6 with the Icebreaker. The campaign will also conclude at Thompson in the World Series on Oct. 19. Another Thompson date is set for Aug. 13.

Stafford Motor Speedway – The Connecticut track will have its four traditional Whelen Modified Tour dates for the 23rd consecutive season, highlighted by the Spring Sizzler (April 27) and Fall Final (Sept. 28). Those two dates bookend Friday night Stafford events on May 23 and Aug. 8.

Adirondack International Speedway – On June 7, the tour will make its first visit to the half-mile oval since 2003.

Waterford Speedbowl – The tour returns for the 20th time to take on the .375-mile oval situated on the Connecticut shoreline on June 21.

Riverhead Raceway – The venerable quarter-mile track will host a pair of events – June 28 and Sept. 13 – just as it did a season ago and has hosted the tour in each of its first 29 seasons.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway – The tour again shares the stage with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for both visits to the Magic Mile. The July 12 event will be preceded on the day before by the special non-championship event. The second date is set for Sept. 20.

Monadnock Speedway – The cozy quarter-mile track located in Winchester, N.H., will host its 10th Whelen Modified Tour race on July 19.

Bristol Motor Speedway – The World’s Fastest Half Mile again hosts the Whelen Modified-Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination event at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway as part of a doubleheader with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Aug. 20.

Earlier this year at Thompson, Ryan Preece captured his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship. Preece, along with the six other NASCAR touring series champions and special award winners, will be honored at the NASCAR Night of Champions Awards on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center next to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
